Tea tree oil for Itchy, flaky scalp?
Posted by Brent

I have tried head & shoulders, selsun blue, maximum strength coal tar
shampoo, and nizoral, but none work. The coal tar and nizoral maybe
worked a little bit for awhile then stopped working. Apple cider
vinegar worked well for awhile, but had to be used pretty often and
can still be smelled the next day. Now, even it doesn't work that
well and has to be used every day.

I've heard to add some tea tree oil to your regular shampoo. I need
to know how much to add. Does anyone know?

Any other thoughts on how to stop this or what might cause it?

That's really too bad, I wish it hadn't.

I've heard of tea tree oil. Haven't tried it yet. You might
ask on news:alt.fashion, because that's was my first source.HTH.

<Itchy, flaky scalp>

Try putting castor oil in a dye applicator bottle and apply to scalp;

Blow hair dryer on hair to heat it and cover with plastic cap. Keep on for
at least an hour while you play around on the computer.

Mix 1/4 cup baking soda with shampoo to wash (baking soda cuts the oil).

Put tblespoon white vinegar diluted in a cup of water (or just splash it on
your head) smoosh it around a little and rinse well with plain water.
Vinegar shouldn't smell after drying.

Eat flax seed meal every morning with yogurt. Take 1 tablespoon extra
virgin olive oil in food during the course of the day.

Don't wash your hair more than 3 x a week. Use very mild shampoo. Harsh
shampoo encourages more oil secretion.

Tea tree oil is good for fungus, etc., but may be strong for some people and
should never be used undiluted.

The shampoos listed on this site are very good and last long. Don't use
bargain stuff.

If nothing else works, wash hair with hand dishwashing soap in case you have
a product buildup, then use castor oil treatment.

Did you try the 1% or the 2% nizoral prescription strength?

Might wanna see a doc.

I wouldn't use more than 1 drop of a tea tree oil per dime size of shampoo
in your palm.

Paul Mitchell makes a tea tree oil shampoo. Comes in a green bottle.

I've found many shampoos with tea tree oil, but already have my own
oil so just needed to know how much to add. I asked JASON naturals
how much TTO is in their TTO shampoo, and they said 15%. So I tried
to put approx. 15% if my shampoo. Works better than regular shampoo
but I still have some itching and flaking. Maybe the shampoo
(Panteen) is too harsh. Would baby shampoo be better?
