It seems hardly a day goes by without there being a posting essentially
advertising some "miracle pill" for losing weight. What's wrong with just
eating a sensible diet, eating in moderation, and ensuring that each day
includes a bit of exercise?

There is nothing wrong with a sensible diet and exercise on a daily
basis.
Three squares a day may not be enough for some people who choose to
supplement their diet.
The RDA for food intake is five servings of fruit and vegetables daily.
Again there are people who cannot take in that much on a daily basis.
Food intake plus supplementation in addition to proper diet and exercise
can help to increase metabolism and weight management.
Food activated supplements can help.
