- A Pink Engine Part?
- Posted by Ron P
I had a question about a pink colored part in the 6 cylinder engine of a
2006 DC SR5. Found a 2006 with 18000 miles at a good deal around $20k.
They had to bring it in from another area, so I have not had a chance to
drive it yet. They don't have any of my money or a signature yet either.
In any event, I snuck by today to take a look before they cleaned it up.
When I popped the hood, the spindle or rod that comes out of the from the
front of the motor that holds the fan (what is this?) had a pink colored
cover or part attached around it. About 4 or 5 inches round. I wish I
could have taken a picture.
I worry now that this is aftermarket and the truck rear ended or hit
something and the front end was rebuilt. The fit and finish look great, no
color changes, no bolts that looked like they have been tampered with. Is
this something Toyota does that says "hey I am original" or is this the sign
of an aftermarket part? The steering feels tight, no looseness or anything,
but that was just at idle.
For what it's worth, I did a carfax and it is a one owner, but nothing else
was reported.
It is a nice truck, but this bothers me a bit. Should I be?
Thanks

I _think_ you are talking about the color of the fan clutch that holds the
fan to the water pump pulley. This is a consumable part that might have been
replaced already, and they can be found in a variety of colors on eBay. I
can't imagine why anybody would care about the color of the fan clutch, but
since they can be had in colors for the same price as black, I suppose it
doesn't really matter.
I would not guess that a fan clutch would have been replaced already, but it
could have. I would not worry ...

If you look closely, you'll see that all the coolant components have pink
colored markings.

Ron, My son has a truck just like the one you are looking at. The fan
clutch shaft is pink as you have noticed. My guess is the color is how
they identify them during assembly.
