I've been calling all over socal the last few days to try and get one of these, I eventually called toyota, and found out pretty much the only way to get one is with a standing order, where dealer stock is searched, and if a match is found, a deal is worked out. I've actually heard from a couple sources they're more common in the midwest and eastcoast regions?? Considering how California sport trucks are, and that I am looking in SoCal, I am amazed by this. If they're gonna make it that hard,...
- Cig lighter died, please help???
- Posted on 06-28-2003 | 2 Comments
Hi, I have a 91 Ext Cab 4x4. The other day, my cigarette lighter quit working. I checked all the fuses that I could find, and none were blown. Is there a hidden cig lighter fuse? I havent had the time to test the wires yet, but could it be the receptical itsef? I was using it to power a power inverter for my laptop. It has been used everyday for almost a year. Is there anything else that I should check????

Have a 2000 Prerunner (2.7liter/4) with 58k. Looking to replace rubber bushings on the swaybar. Polyurathane replacements are supposedly too harsh. A harder rubber than OEM replacements is what I am looking for. Any suggestions? GSP

I don't think they were priced quite this much, but were within $10-20 of the overall price. I'd buy them again. They hold mud and water great and look/fit extremely good.
- 1989 22R engine 4x4 overheating
- Posted on 06-27-2003 | 8 Comments
My 1989 4x4 began to overheat a couple of months ago. It developed serious coolant leaks in the lower radiator hose and the water pump. With coolant leaking from the water pump weep holes, I figured the water pump was kaput so I immediately replaced it, along with the hoses, and belts for good measure. Although the leaks are fixed, it is still overheating, suggesting there is poor circulation. The upper hose is hot so the thermostat is working fine, but I replaced it anyway with no effect. ...

Hi Doing a third member swap on my rear solid axle. undid the brakes and disconnected the axles. Is there an easy way to pull out the third member once you remove all 10 bolts on the case? Mine won't budge. What in the hell is holding it back? One of the nuts came off without the bolt (all the rest came out - the

- Weight Distribution Question about '86 4Runner Transmission
- Posted on 06-26-2003 | 1 Comments
Gonna drop my tranny to do a clutch job. I have a pretty decent floor jack and have decided that I could manufacture a craddle that would attach to it to hold the tranny. I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight as to the weight distribution. What area of the tranny should be supported? The tranny itself has a pretty small footprint looking at it from the underside. But is it the heaviest part of the bundled unit when it is taken out? Or should I be supporting a little further...

I buit a wood one on my '84 when it rusted away. I think I used 4x6 treated for fore and aft stringers and then put 1x6 decking on that. It looked good and was kind of nice to have a flar bed. About a year later I noticed the frame was rotting through. Before you go to alot of troublr check the frame. Mine went first a foot or two behind the door. I could squeeze it and feel it give. Good luck
- 1994 4x4 22RE
- Posted on 06-26-2003 | 2 Comments
Hi all... I recently (4 days ago) bought a 1994 4x4 with a 22RE and a 5 speed. It has 85,000 miles on it. The previous owner saved all the oil change receipts (actually he had it on some service plan with a local Sears Automotive Center--got the oil changed, 4WD components lubed, tires rotated, etc. regularly) and claims to have babied it. It seems to run very well (I took it on a road trip this weekend of 500 miles and it performed flawlessly) and
- transmisson problem "heads-up"
- Posted on 06-25-2003 | 1 Comments
My late 80's toyota truck started to develop a difficulty shifting into and holding 3rd and 4 th gears. The transmission shop told me that it likely was the brass bushings in the tranny, and that it would either be $240 plus cost of a transmission or $440 plus parts to rebuild the transmission, with the total being between $650 and $1200. I then contacted a friend who knows autos, and he told me to pull the shifter and replace the nylon bushing the shifter rotated on and the bushing at the...
- Rear Windows in 4Runner
- Posted on 06-25-2003 | 1 Comments
I have a 1990 4Runner with V6 and Automatic. Yesterday I noticed that my rear wiper arm was not going back into its rest position. I was on the HWY so I thought I would take a look at it when I got home. But before I got home, I tried to lower the rear window as it was very hot. But no luck. It just would not move. After I moved the rear wiper arm back to its home position, I could move the window up and down from both the key and inside the truck. My question is, is there a safety switch that...

- Need help with replacement stereo
- Posted on 06-25-2003 | 4 Comments
I decided to put my CD player from my other truck in my '90 4Runner. I couldn't find a harness at Wally-World or AutoZone, so I cut and spliced. The stereo works, but I have no sound to the rear speakers - none at all. Here's the scenario: Toyota factory system (Matsushita AM/FM/Cassette) has the connections for both front and rear speakers. The replacement has only front. I tied them together (LF with LR, RF with RR). I also have an amp that was used for the rear speakers only with the...
