I forgot to add... It idles just fine. It only bogs down, misses and tries to die when I put a load on it - try to drive it. Mike

my 4runner stinks

Thought I might throw this out, hopefully someone will have some good advise. Whenever I am stopped at a light or wherever, there is this awful smell, is becoming downright embarrassing. My friends say it is the fuel/air mixture while I am inclined to suspect the catalytic converter. Anyone?

Tacoma DoubleCab Tonneau Cover Recommendations
Posted on 07-03-2003 | 1 Comments

I have a 2002 Taco DoubleCab PreRunner. I would like to get a secure tonneau cover for this. I definately want a hard cover, as I require a secure bed area at times. I'm thinking a roll-top tonneau cover will probably be the way to go, as I can still haul large items without removing the whole thing. I got a price quote on the Pace-Edwards rolltop. They were looking at $825 installed with the tailgate lock. I'm thinking that is a bit too much, anm I wrong? I have not seen too many others...

'01 Tundra with vibration problem
Posted on 07-02-2003 | 3 Comments

I have a 2001 Tundra SR5, V8, with 41k miles. Runs great, but has a vibration that feels like it is in the drivetrain. Have replaced the tires, no change. Tires have been computer balanced several times, including rotation (front to rear & then cross rotation), but no fix. I put the truck on jack stands and put in gear. Tires are clearly not out of round and track straight. But, I did notice that the rear driveline (2 piece unit) appears to have a slight wobble, whereas the front portion of the...

Known issues with new or late model Tundras
Posted on 07-02-2003 | 18 Comments

In the past 2 years I have bitched a fair amount about several things on my 01 Tundra that I have been displeased with including a Tranny failing on me. With all of that when compared to the competetion I would still buy a Tundra. WF On Mon, 23 Jun 2003 11:36:12 -0500, dbtexas@earthlink.net.invalid wrote:

Posted on 07-01-2003 | 1 Comments

Hello I'm the new owner of 2003 Tacoma and it is my first 4-wheel drive vehicle I have owned. I have a question regarding shifting in low 4-wheel drive. According to the manual, before shifting into low 4 - the vehicle should be stopped- auto transmission set in neutral - then shift the lever into low 4. When I do this I can feel the gears (not smooth as when shifting from normal

Tacoma Brake Lights
Posted on 07-01-2003 | 1 Comments

My '98 Tacoma right rear brake light (upper light with the amber lens) does not work when the brake pedal is pressed. However, the right turn signal (same light) does work. I've changed bulbs just for the heck of it and there's no difference. When I depress the brake pedal the right turn signal on the dashboard lights and remains solid green until I release the pedal. I know it's trying to tell me something. Does anyone speak 'Tacoma' who can interpret? The other brake lights work fine, so I...

Hilux 2.8 Diesel Glow Plug.
Posted on 07-01-2003 | 1 Comments

When I removed my glow plugs for replacement, one snapped off at the element right below the thread and has stayed tightly jammed in the cylinder head. I have no problem starting with one plug U/S but would prefer to remove it if there is an easy way. I have tried running the motor to "blow it out" , didn't work. I tried getting a self tapping screw into it but the white insulating powder in the element wont let the thread get started, and I think it is jammed too hart to pull out that...

Idle Problems with 22RE
Posted on 06-30-2003 | 3 Comments

Hi, I have a '93 Toyota pickup with the 4 cylinder 22RE engine and about 110,000 miles on it. Anyway the engine is idling rough. It is almost a rhythmic idle (speeds up slows down) in a way you could almost set your watch to. It speeds up even worse if I turn on the A/C making it idle faster. I took it into a Toyota dealer and they told me it was the throttle body and it needed to be replaced. Unfortunately throttle body's run $600 new and can't be rebuilt according to several other fuel...

Tranny/Transfer case question for 86 4Runner
Posted on 06-30-2003 | 2 Comments

I have three repair manuals, each has it's own merits. However each is a little fuzzy when it gets down to the tranny. I dropped the tranny to do a clutch job. Upon recommendation I am replacing oil seals and a few gaskets along with the clutch kit. I have removed the transfer case, 6-bolts and it slides right off. The next section that has been referred to in my manuals as the "transfer adapter" which is mounted against a thick section that looks like a divider between the transfer adapter...

01 Tacoma drivetrain noise
Posted on 06-30-2003 | 9 Comments

I have an 01 Tacoma 4x4 extended cab V6 with a noise problem as I let off the gas (coast) at highway speeds. As soon as I put my foot on the gas though it goes quiet. I'm usually pretty good at diagnosing car problems, but have absolutely no idea what could cause this. Anyone have any experience with this?
