Any ideas on this, I have an '86, it's barely broke in, but I have this problem that the charge and brake lights, they came on and stayed on. I went to the local dealer and asked the service guy what he thought...said, "it's the alternator, probably brushes are gone." Took it to Advance, they tested, battery good, alternator putting out 12.8. Few days later somone said I had a brake light out. That had to be it, since I'm writing this, it wasn't it. There are no other electrical problems that...
- Tacoma Turn Signal Problem
- Posted on 07-14-2003 | 1 Comments
I have been unable to correct a turn signal problem in my 98 Tacoma. When I step on the brake pedal, the left turn signal bulbs light and the left turn indicator arrow lights. If I put the left turn signal on, both the front and rear signal lights operate properly. If I step on the brake pedal while the turn signals are on they stay lighted as though they were brake lights, but they blink slightly. I have changed all the bulbs. All the 1157 bulbs work in both modes. I'm stumped. Any ideas...

I've never taken my V8 out in the sand so I can't give you any 1st hand experiences, but I'd think the additional torque of the V8 would do you well out there. Besides, the V8 does have a 4 low range and locking center diff just like the V6. The only drawback is about 1 or 2 mpg less than the V6. HTH. Steve

I have an 03 Tundra with extended cab. I also have a leak that shows up in the very rear corner of driver side, wet carpet, every time it rains. So far, I have not been able to locate where the water gets in. It does not matter if I am driving or the truck is just sitting still, it still leaks. Any ideas?

- Magnetic Oil Drain Plug?
- Posted on 07-12-2003 | 2 Comments
Good Morning Everyone - With about 600 miles left until the next oil change in my '95 T100, I was wondering about getting a magnetic drain plug. Does anyone know the metric thread size of the drain plug for a 3.4 V6? Also, a couple of companies on the internet advertise magnetic plugs. Anyone have experience with these? If not, can anyone point me in the right direction either on the net or at my neighborhood parts outlet? Thanks for your help

I've read on other boards that replacing the thermostat with one of a lower temp rating can produce more power. Is this true? If so how? What would be a good temp to put in?

- After-market receiver to control factory cd changer
- Posted on 07-10-2003 | 1 Comments
I've got a 99 Tacoma with the 6-disc in-dash cd changer. I like the cd changer but would like to replace the head unit with one that would actually control my existing cd changer. Does anyone know of a make/model of receiver that does this? I wouldn't mind one with a cassette (since that's what I'm replacing) but it's not a major restriction since I haven't listened to a cassette since I was, oh, 12 or so. :) I've searched for stuff but haven't found anything.

I want to control engine heat. Why does the temp gauge go up on highway speed? More air is flowing through the radiator and it should be cooler. Why? List of new parts: 3 core Radiator, Factory fan clutch, thermostat 194 degree, new upper and two lower hose and pipe, new water pump, belts, tranny cooler, had catalytic fore and aft pressure checked, ok. What I want: When going down a desert hwy at noon and 125-130 degrees ambient, A/C on, I want the temp gauge to be no more than a third of

- Why aren't gas prices dropping?

Why aren't fuel prices dropping like expected? There is a web site that shows a graph of fuel prices since 1995. I thought after the war we would see a decrease, but regular gas is up 10 cents a gallon from the same time last year. See it at www.storydata.com
