neg w/ dealer for a used '99 sr5 sport 4runner....advice needed
Posted on 08-25-2003 | 4 Comments

I do this as a hobby, negotiate for those who cannot do it for themselves (no, I am NOT seeking any work from you). Just saved someone almost $3000, got $1250 for two hours' effort... there are articles all over the internet on how to negotiate a car purchase. you are going to pay extra for dealing with a dealer...I bought my 98 4Runner from a private party and got it for $4000 under blue book. S-Runner owners unite!
Posted on 08-25-2003 | 2 Comments

An S-Runner you say!? Do you know how rare your truck is? Congratulations for picking a winner. I've got a supercharged 2001 S-Runner with positraction myself. Do you have anti-lock brakes? Whatever the case, you can run larger rotors if you're willing to move up to 17" wheels. Before spending that kind of money, go to Auto Zone and ask for their Performance Friction brake pads, part# 4334. They are guaranteed for life, and they're under $40. Toyota Racing Division once marketed these same pads...

MDT Tech what's the difference between the I-force and I-Force v8's
Posted on 08-25-2003 | 6 Comments

I just looked up the specs on the 03 4 runner. I always thought the 230 HP 320 lb.-ft. Indicated the Landcruiser engine was put in the 4 runner Then I noticed the 4 runner is an I-Force engine just not the same I-force in the Sequoia and Tundra So what is I-force versus non I-Force

what does this &%$#$ switch do ?
Posted on 08-25-2003 | 5 Comments

Please excuse my ignorance but I need help. I have a '92 4x4 Extra-cab, 5-speed. Right next to the clutch start cancel button (to the right of it) is what appears to be a factory installed red switch that I have no idea what it does. When I click it up and down I hear a relay switching on and off under the dash. I have tried to follow the wiring but it disappears into a factory wrapped cluster that I can't quite follow. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

86 4Runner 22RE problem
Posted on 08-25-2003 | 2 Comments

I posted something about this a few months ago but I have a little more info that may clue someone in... My truck had an exhaust leak so I took it in. They replaced the forward most pipe that hooked to the exhaust manifold. That didn't work - they said the exhaust manifold needed replaced. I took it to someone else who took off the manifold and had it machined. They put it back on and it was quiet again. But... That fix caused another problem. The truck idles rough and hesitates when I take...

I am having intermitent starting problems. It starts fine for many days and then after being driven it will not start, but i can pop the clutch or wait awile and it will start. I have changed the starter 3 times in the last 8 weeks, so this doesn't seem to be the problem. I have power at the starter and all other electrical systems seem fine.

According to a report on CNN, the 2003 Tacomas have the worse roll over rating. 2004's are suppose to have an on-board chip to help compensate for possible rollover.

Window Rattle on Tundra
Posted on 08-23-2003 | 1 Comments

I have a 2001 Tundra and the driver side window rattles when not fully closed or open. My local dealer says this is a common issue with the way the window is held in the door and it is not actually loose. To me, it sounds as if it is loose on the track And it wasn't like that the first year. Any comments?

help - brake pad chatter
Posted on 08-23-2003 | 1 Comments

Hey lucky, did you slap the rotors on straight outta the box? You may want to take them back off and take them to your local machine shop and have them turned on a lathe. That will " true " up any irregularities or runout resulting from being transported from point A to point B It should'nt cost you more than $10 or $20 bucks a rotor depending on what area of the U.S. you're in, notwithstanding Ca. where everything cost a fortune and is taxed to the hilt these days.........where was I ? oh you...
