losing oil on '95 2.7l
Posted by Matt Collier

Hi group, I am the original owner of a 1995 tacoma 4x4 with the 2.7 four
banger. I have recently noticed that I am low about
a half quart every 1000 to 1200 miles, a friend of mine noticed seepage
around the valve cover and tightened the bolts, which were very loose.
I am still losing oil at the same rate, there is no blue smoke at start up,
no puddles on the ground, and it is too cold in New York to degrease the
engine around the valve cover. any ideas.
The truck has 209.000 miles and I would like to keep it.
Am I fooling myself with this idea?

Clean the engine and engine compartment to be able to *SEE* any leaks. Then
do both dry and wet compression tests. WHile your at it, if you have a
manual teans, you might want to check for oil inside of the bell housing.

Replace PVC valve yet? Rings and valve guides worn at 210k. Try 20W40 oil.
Ya might try that high mileage vehicle oil too.
