'01 Tundra Ignition Switch?
Posted by Ken Shelton

My 2001 Tundra sometimes doesn't crank right away. Sometimes I have
to hold the key in the Start position a fraction of a second longer
than normal. Once I've had to release the key and twist it to the
Start position a second time. There is no noise when this
happens...nothing.

Ignition switch about to fail? Something else?

Anyone with any tips about changing out the ignition switch?

Thanks,
Ken

Do you have a test lamp? If so connect it to teh starter connections and see
if the lamp lights as soon as you turn your key. If not go from Starter
connections to Soliniod connections, if that doesnt work go to the starter
relay connections (Either a relay or at the switch).

This process of emilination should lead to to whats wrong.

I recently had a somewhat similar problem with my Mazda MPV. The trouble
turned out to be the Security System.

Ah yes, the relays in em arent what the system requires. Usually the relays
are 3amp only with a 5-10amp draw they soon clap out unless you use a
seperate 30amp relay.

Make sure the clutch is all the way in.
