As far as the warranty, you are almost certainly right, but I have no idea what the rules are in Australia. One other thing I hope is self-evident: I would not recommend towing anything behind any vehicle in its break-in period.

Just put a little "fix-a-flat" in each of the tires and you'll be fine. It'll cost you $8 at the auto parts store so you'll save $1392 and the wheels will be just as good as the new ones. The only reason to replace a wheel is if it's: 1) cracked, 2) bent, or 3) stolen. Steve Giannoni wrote: --

The Li-ion pack simply replaced it, but it will return to its role powering a scooter. For my purposes, the original lead-acid battery will handle the load. btw, pin 2 of the leftmost connector of the block under the steering wheel is always-ON, and sufficed for light loads and a small inverter

I lurked on a couple SMART car forums a couple years ago and was unnerved by the problems reported by the owners. A major problem that was often addressed on the Australian forum was the short life expectancy of the diesel engine - apparently there were two versions of the engine. The more troublesome version was described by one of the forum regulars as having a 50K km (!)...

Interesting you state that, because the car has had the universal joint replaced on recall previously by the last owner accordign to the Toyota dealer here. I just wonder if they bothered to align the wheels after replacement and therefore this is the reason for the offcentred steering wheel!! I bet they wont admit to that tho.
