- AC vents won't stay put
- Posted on 07-22-2003 | 4 Comments
Hi, Can anyone offer any suggestions on a remedy for keeping the AC vents in my 2000 Camry in place? They have lost their friction and do not stay put in an 'intermediate' position; they want to roll all they way to the 'bottom' or 'top', to rest against the mechanism holding them in the dash. They obviously need to be tightened but even the most automotive savvy friends of mine have said that gaining entry into the dash to accomplish this is no small beans worth of work.

The thing goes off about twice a week, either the remote is in my pocket or my wifes purse. I have no use for this mode, yet in the manual there is no program feature to turn it off. Any help would be great.

- What grade of Chevron?
- Posted on 07-21-2003 | 4 Comments
Just got a new 03 Camry XLE V6. I use Chevron gas. Of the three grades of chevron gas, the owners manual seems to suggest that the lowest grade is ok. I'm sure if I use premium that I'll get somewhat better performance but how much better? Will the low grade do any harm??? All opinions and suggestions welcomed....
- When is best time to buy a new Camry?
- Posted on 07-21-2003 | 1 Comments
Right now there is $1,000 rebate on 2003 Camrys. A local dealer (Harr in Worcester) offered me a price of $200 below invoice plus the $1,000 off and free tires for life. Thats about 17,700-200-1000=16,500. Sounds like a good deal. But will I get a better one if I wait? I know that once the 2004 Camrys arrive the dealers will be very eager to sell the remaining 2003, but by then the rebate is no longer valid (expires Aug 4 2003).

- 2002 Camry wanders
- Posted on 07-20-2003 | 5 Comments
I have to pay attention to staying in lane and adjust the wheel more than with my old 1987 Camry. I understand that the 2002 is a bit wider than the old model....so the positon of veh. in the lane is even more critical. Is this normal with the 2002's, or is there something I can do to tighten the steering....I only have 5000 miles since buying it new. Other than that it drives like a dream....except that gas mileage is only 24 MPG. Maybe I'm just getting old and need a smaller car.
- Lifting Camry safely ?

Hello, I would like to lift my Camry to change the back tire to the front and the front tire to the back on the same side. How can i do this safely using just stands and a hydrolic jack? Where would i position them? *I do not have a spare* I looked in several service manuals and none give me an idea. My car is a 1987 Camry.

- How to buy a used Camry with an extended armrest and side air bags?
- Posted on 07-20-2003 | 4 Comments
I am in the process of researching a buying a used car, and there's no question in my mind that the 1998-2001 Camrys are the best for safety and reliability for my price range. There's only one problem, the armrest. In my last three cars (a Chevy, a Buick, and a Ford) I could rest my right elbow on the armrest and reach the steering wheel (I'm 6' 2", so perhaps long arms help). However, with the Camrys I've test driven, this hasn't been possible. A search of google groups, turns up this...
- Disappointed! in the 2002 Camry LE.
- Posted on 07-20-2003 | 10 Comments
Purchased a new 2002 Camry LE last year to discover that the oil pan had a leak. Toyota is apparently becoming Americanized to save money. They are using a liquid gasket sealant on the oil pan and the transmission. In some cases when it leaks, the dealerships call it seepage."Beware"! There is a lot involved in stopping this seepage or leak if retorqing the pan bolts and transmission bolts does not correct the problem. It didn't on my Camry LE. Take the time to check for leakage or seepage. Jim...

I have a 98 4cyl. camry with 79,000 miles. i moved to denver last winter and as a result drive it in the mountains on a regualr basis. i took it in to my old dealer back home while visiting (chicago) for the 75,000 mile service. it's been serviced every 15K since i bought it new. they told me that they found metal shavings in the transmission when they drained the fluid and recommeded that i consider getting a new tranny because of possible internal damage. the mechanic also told me that...

- 4 Cyl Camry vs. V6 Taurus
- Posted on 07-18-2003 | 18 Comments
Can anyone give me some advice? I will soon buy a car and it's down to the 2003 4 cyl Camry and the 2003 V6 Taurus, and many friends recommend the Camry but I'm worried about it's power going up hills. Can you tell me how the 2003 Camry responds to steep inclines, hills and mountains? Memories of another, lesser, four-cylinder twenty years ago have me gunshy about the less than a V6. Thanks for your advice to anyone who responds. Sorry if this is too stupid a question for this group.
- Speaker wire dangling
- Posted on 07-18-2003 | 1 Comments
My 2000 Camry LE has a rear speaker that makes no sound. I looked in the trunk and saw that one of the two wires that go down into the speaker is loose and hanging outside the speaker. I don't see any way to fix it without disassembling the rear shelf. Does anyone know a way? If not, is this a repair I can do? If not, any idea how much it will cost? I've had the car less than 3 years but more than 36k miles, so Toyota and my dealer say there's no warranty coverage for this. Richard
