- Test drive was a disappointment
- Posted on 07-30-2003 | 5 Comments
I test drove an 2003 EX V6. Seemed ok except for one aspect of unacceptable performance. I normally do not drive with a heavy foot. However there are times when I need quick acceleration to merge, pass, etc. What I found with the V6 (and also saw this with the 4) was as follows: I would press on the one-half way down on the accelerator and there would be a ONE SECOND pause with nothing 'noticeable' happening. Then there would be
- Could this be bad plug wires?
- Posted on 07-30-2003 | 4 Comments
Our 1993 Camry suddenly developed a poor power problem, with the engine running choppily. The first thing that comes to mind is that it might be bad plugs and/or plug wires. Is there an easy way to verify this...or do you have any other ideas of what it might be? Thanks, -Al

- 89 Camry cranks but won't start
- Posted on 07-30-2003 | 6 Comments
89 Camry, 4cyl, auto, 150,000miles, timing belt was replaced 7 years ago with less than 60k miles on it. Used to be very easy to start. Recently, it quits start suddenly although the starter cranks well. The following works are done to find the problem: 1). The resistance of the ignition coil are normal. 2). Replaced spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor and wires. The spark plugs generate light-blue sparks while cranking, which means the timing belt is not broken. 3). Replaced fuel filter. I...
- Brand new camry 03: Airbag light on
- Posted on 07-30-2003 | 11 Comments
Hi, I bought a Toyota Camry, 2003, LE just 3-days back and I already have a problem with it. The airbag light remains on all the time. We notified the dealer and he said that he will get it fixed. Obviously this has got us severly upset because this is a safety issue and there is no way to check whether the airbag is actually working till you get into an accident!! (unlike other defects)....We bought a brand new car...that too a toyota.... because we are concerned about the safety and...

- V6 Camry crankshaft pulley bolt
- Posted on 07-30-2003 | 2 Comments
I'd keep the tranny in neutral just because. no precautions, except the common sense ones.. where safety glasses, I recommend gloves also. there won't be any damage to the engine, unless the bolt is extra stubborn and the gun rotates the engine backwards... that's not necessarily a good thing. However, a good blast of reverse torque should loosen the crank bolt pretty quickly.
- Camry brakes
- Posted on 07-29-2003 | 2 Comments
Sometimes I read complaints about Camry brakes. This past week, I was drving over a freeway overpass, apx. 35 - 40 mph, ('94 4 cyl. Camry, disk front, drum rear, recently flushed the brake fluid, regularly use the parking brake so the rears stay adjusted, check the tire inflation weekly, ) when a large truck pulled out in front of my path with really not enough time to clear, but made it with just a small amount of clearance, then a large van pulled out immediately behind the first truck -...

- 1998 Camry transmission slipping. Please help
- Posted on 07-28-2003 | 13 Comments
Hi I have a 1998 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinders automatic. I noticed the other evening while driving about 40 miles per hour, the tranny just mysteriously disengaged. The rpm of the engine went all the way up. After pressing the accelerator two or three times the tranny reengaged and the check engine light lit up immediately. The problem reoccured this morning. In the two instances, the car was still warming up. I was driving for less than 5 minutes in both instances. The problem did not...
- Rear suspension noise when loaded
- Posted on 07-28-2003 | 5 Comments
99 Camry 4cyl. Car has about 55k miles. When car is heavily loaded I can hear an occasional muted thumping in the rear. Sounds a lot like the original front stut mounts that were replaced in warranty when the car was new. Dealer says he can't hear the noise. They must be deaf, or I need to load more sand in the trunk before the next trip over there. Don't think the suspension is bottoming out because it somethimes happens on even roadway that has been milled and creates a vibration. Struts...
- 02 Camry Fuel Gauge Question

I've noticed my 02 Camry LE fuel gauge does not always reach "Full", even when I pump the gas repeatedly after the pump stops. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a warning of a failing gauge? (I still have 4,000 miles prior to the 36k miles warranty expiring....) Thanks in advance, Steve B
- Stereo or speakers which died?
- Posted on 07-28-2003 | 2 Comments
One morning last week I ran out to shut the car windows as I had noticed it was raining. It didn't seem to be raining that much and not much water was noticed in the car. When I put the key in to run up the power windows the radio came on, I quickly turned it off as it was 4:30 am. Later that morning, when I went to leave I noticed that I no longer had any sound coming from the radio. If I turn the stereo way up I might hear a slight crack sound from the speakers but thats it. I'm thinking the...

Recently I made the mistake of putting the wrong bulb in one of my brakelight sockets. After that, my taillights won't go on when I turn on my headlights. Every other light works fine. I checked the fuses and even replaced the relay fuse. Just wondering if somoene could point me in the right direction to solve this problem. Someone mentioned the brakelight switch, but not sure about that. Any help would be greatley appreciated...Thanks Ed
- VVT-i Operation at Idle?
- Posted on 07-28-2003 | 1 Comments
Hello, Since I posted about a valve clatter like noise with my 03 Camry/ 4cyl (2AZ-FE), I think it must be related to the VVT mechanism. Reasoning to follow. While at work, I recently examined, and disassembled a VVT unit form a Celica GT. First off, I was struck by its weight. It's all steel, and I would say about 1.5-2 pounds in weight. Interesting to note the bolts holding it together were 5 sided.

- Help for squeal noise from brake
- Posted on 07-27-2003 | 1 Comments
Hi, I have a used Camry(90', 4 cylinder, automatic) which makes a squeal (not sharp and loud, just like the noise made from white foamed plastics in most packaging box rubbing on glass) today. The car does not make the noise before. The sound can be heard especially when I drive slowly at a stop. A total brake job (brake disk, cylinder, brake line, etc.) was done at 101,757 mile on 25, Jan. 2002. On 9, June, 2003, the CV boots were changed at the dealer when my car has
- Road Clearance
- Posted on 07-26-2003 | 1 Comments
My 1999 Camry rides very low, bottoming on speed bumps etc.., especially when carrying four passengers. I've been told to get used to it, as it's a design feature. However, the other day, I parked behind a newer Camry, probably 2001 or 2002, which was noticeably higher than mine by several inches. Have the newer Camrys been built higher? If not is there some adjustment or kit which might have raised the one I saw?

Not much except for wear items....oxygen sensors and the power steering pump. Flush the transmission and change the differential fluid, clean the throttle body, flush the brake fluid (if you haven't done it in the last three or four years). You should be good for another 100 000 miles. "Randy Mize" <r.mize@mchsi.com> wrote in message news:xBDTa.130255$Ph3.16723@sccrnsc04...
