Posted on 01-19-2005 | 3 Comments

Add Toyota coolant designed to best protect your aluminum radiator and head and / or block, mixed with 50 - 60% distilled water. If the mixture in the overflow tank is old and dark take the opportunity to drain the radiator and re fill. You need to buy the gallon of coolant anyway, and when you add distilled water, you'll have two gallons or more. If you have the 4 cylinder, you should be able to reach the plastic drain plug at the bottom of the radiator from above. It only needs to be hand...

Sounds like tires to me too. Call around to shops in your area and find one that has a Hunter GSP9700 Roadforce wheel balancer. It's a really cool piece of equipment that is able to pinpoint all sorts of tire maladies including internal problems normal balancers don't show.

Wolfgang wrote: terminals. This causes high resistance. The high current for starting is unavailable and reduces the voltage enough that the solenoid drops out and chatters. So, you can check the voltage at the solenoid while cranking. The terminals must be cleaned even if they don't look corroded. Typically this happens in the spring or fall when the temperature has changed. Also, a worn ignition switch can cause the same problem.

OEM parts books available for many makes and models. They are the same information the dealer parts counter uses to look up parts for your vehicle. Depending on the model and year, they are on microfiche or CD-ROM. I ship worldwide (I charge actual shipping cost as computed by the US Postal Service, no inflated charges) and I accept Paypal and money orders. Drop me a line with any interest. I have had good luck with TOYO tires but have gone to COOPER tires because they have better road hazzard and are less expensive. Michelin do not hold up very well for me. No road hazzard and the sidewalls are the weak point of Michelin. On the other hand, I know piople who have excellent results with Michelin. I drive a lot of highway miles and about 15 miles of gravel roads every day. There are several grades of tires within the same companies. I buy the upper line of COOPER tires and have...

1994 Camry Engine - Interference or non-interference
Posted on 01-16-2005 | 8 Comments

I change my '94 Camry's timing belt every 70,000 miles. Also change the water pump and idlers and the tensioning spring. Fairly easy job. Just follow the directions in the Haines manual. I use an impact wrench to remove the crankshaft bolt. This is the most difficult part of the operation. My '94 Camry has over 217,000 miles.

There are also SSC - Special Service Campaigns that aren't safety related but are fixed free years after warranty expires. Had expansion valve/seals replaced and entire AC system recharged with R12 10 and 8 years after purchasing on my 90 4Rnr and 93 Camry. Cost would have been $300-400!
