CV Boot and other work
Posted by pwichert@hotmail.com

I have a split - actually detached - CV boot on the driver's side that
I need to get fixed. I've heard it's just as well to get the whole
axle half shaft for that side replaced. Any other work that should be
done at the same time? Is there a seal or something where that shaft
meets the transmission? or stabilizer bar bushings? 1995 4cyl
195,000 miles. Thanks.

Cardone Selects are new halfshafts with lifetime warranty (check the
parts store you buy them from). So why not? Also replace the axle seal
while at it. Sure, the bushings too. Good time to check ball joint and
other control arm bushings as well.

I both repack and use new. You'll save some money but takes more time
to repack.

I believe that at that mileage it would be a good move to have both
sides done with a replacement half-shaft complete. The reason is that
the cost is comparable to having just a boot done, and you have new
rubber, grease and good CVs for the next 195 K.

There is no other work that especially needs to be done with it, the
ball joints are long-lived on this car.

Cheers
