91 Camry Seatbelt Tension
Posted by Mel

The car has a lot of miles on it, but runs perfectly.

Both the drivers and passenger side seatbelts stay lose all the time. I
tried pulling hard on all (lap and shoulder) the belts and they never lock
up.

When I pull up on the seatbelt emergency release lever, the alarm and
indicator lights come one. The shoulder belts move up and down correctly,
then the door is opened and closed.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be wrong that would affect all
seat belts?

Tks much

Non-working seat belts are dangerous. The inertial catch should
generally be in the belt reel. You should still be able to order seat
belt reel assemblies to replace these. Google online Toyota parts
dealers for lower prices.

The alarm switch is probably in the buckle and still works. So there
should be no problem there.

That said, I think Honda seat belts have lifetime warranty even when
your car turned into a rust bucket. So call your Toyota dealer and
check with them before spending.

Thanks for the tip. These belts are different.

I did a hard brake at about 5 mph and they locked up perfectly. I also
tested that the electronic seatbelt release lever turns off the system, and
when on, the seatbelts do not lock at all.

I still can't get them to lock when I pull on the belts.

Is this all normal? I have never seen a seatbelt that did not lock up when
pulled hard.

Tks much for all the help.

My front Belts on a 1995 Camry don't reel in very well.
Did anyone find out if there was a Lifetime Warranty ?
