Help! Any cheap way to clean an aluminum head?
Posted on 07-03-2003 | 2 Comments

I'm doing some work on an old 20R head. I'm restoring a '77 Celica, and building a 20R/22R hybrid engine. This is ancient history, but the trick was to mount a 20R head onto a 22R block. This results in better breathing and higher compression (-; I know you can't hot-tank an aluminum head, so does anyone know of a good solvent for cleaning it all up, getting the carbon out of the combustion chambers and ports, etc . . . What's good for cleaning the valves without damaging them? I

1984 Celica Door handle supplier? New?
Posted on 07-02-2003 | 5 Comments

I need a plastic clip for the lever that attatches to the exterior door handle, drivers' side. I'll buy the whole handle if I have to... are there any sources for either the clip or the handle? The handle will be a pain because the bolt closest to the back of the door (the hardest one to get to) is frozen and it appears it's going to break off the mounting bracket it attatches to. But anyway... I'll burn that bridge when I get to it. Thanks in advance. Tom

Rear window on 95 Avalon...
Posted on 07-02-2003 | 5 Comments

My parents have a '95 Avalon. The power window wouldn't work on the driver's door. Instead of having me fix it, they put it into the dealer. I just glanced at the invoice, but I think it said they replaced a "regulator" assembly. It cost a few hundred dollars for parts and labor. I think it's fairly clear that '95 Avalons have got problems with the window motors. Here's a link from epinions: http://www.epinions.com/auto-review-34CA-9DC4E27-3962B746-prod4 Scroll down to the bottom, where...

Warranty on 2000 model?
Posted on 07-01-2003 | 1 Comments

I just clocked past the three year mark on my 2000 Avalon so the bumper to bumper 3/36 warranty is finished. Does this model year have a drive train warranty beyond 3/36? Joe -- ============= "This is my keyboard. There are many like it, but this one is mine." =============

Echo Hatchback in '04?
Posted on 07-01-2003 | 7 Comments

Is there to be a hatchback version of the Echo released in the US in 2004? Canada will get it then (it's listed on the Toyota Canada website). I actually drove one in Switzerland. It's called the Yaris there. It was a 4-door hatchback that handled the twisty mountain roads with ease. Thanks for any info!

Original Toyota Wheels wanted
Posted on 07-01-2003 | 1 Comments

I would like to buy a set of Toyota 14" aluminum wheels with the 4 x 100mm bolt pattern. This size mostly came on the Corolla from '88 to '02, as well as older MR2's and newer Tercels, Paseos and Echos. I will pay decent money, but not as much as those wheel-dealers are asking. I would actually prefer an older set, and one that says "Toyota" rather than the Toyota symbol

Key won't turn all the way
Posted on 07-01-2003 | 3 Comments

The ignintiion key in my 95 Avalon, turns to about the ACC position and then stops. I can't get it to turn the rest of the way. I tried jiggling the steering wheel, and I tried three different keys. The steering wheel does turn back and forth, but the key still won't turn all the way, enough to turn it over. I'm thinking maybe the cylinder has to be replaced. I'm debating whether to have it towed to a locksmith or a repair shop. I believe a locksmith can replace it without chaning the key.

That may help me with my "Theft system gone crazy" problem in another thread... If I take a pane of glass out beside my car (not my car glass), and break it, would the sensor hear it, and set the alarm off as a test to find out why my alarm is going off in the middle of the night? I would like to know how to retrieve the error codes on this car. Where is the connector, and what pins should i ground or jump together to make the check engine light flashing the code. Also, if you have the error codes listing, i greatly appreciate that. Thanks very much in advance!
