Struts for 1988 Corolla - DIY?
Posted on 07-28-2003 | 1 Comments

We recently purchased a 1988 Corolla DX (4dr, 3 spd auto) for my high school age daughter to use for driving to school, to work, to get into trouble, etc. The car has 104k on the odometer and is in generally good condition. The workshop receipts we received with the car indicate its been fairly well maintained. So far though we have: - had the nearly bald tires replaced - replaced the AAP diaphragm (it was full of pinholes) - replaced the front brake pads and had the rotors turned

Question about selling car
Posted on 07-28-2003 | 6 Comments

Well After 3 years with my 1996 Supra TT it has to go. Having never sold one, I can only imagine that there will be some oddities with the process, for instance - a legitimate potential buyer will demand a road test, however I don't want to start 'giving rides' to those who have no real intention of purchasing. More specifically: Any comments on how to screen without offending? I realize that we're talking about a $20-30k item here, not a 6-figure one, but I still don't want every Tom,...

2003 Corolla LE lube question
Posted on 07-28-2003 | 15 Comments

Hi I recently bought a 2003 corolla LE, can anyone tell me where the grease fittings are? It appears not to have any is this normal for Toyota? I normally lube the chassis when I change the oil in my other car. How do you lube this one? Is there another way or do I have to get Toyota to install grease fittings? Thanks Rob rbboydston@cox.net

A/C fan problem, please help
Posted on 07-28-2003 | 1 Comments

Well, the blower on the A/C system on my 1999 RX300 simply stopped while blowing on low speed. I turned the car off and back on and it worked for about a minute and stopped for good. I can't get it to turn back on no matter the A/C setting. There is now a strange sound coming from the center console. It sounds like flaps opening and shutting over and over again. Hopefully there is a secret warranty that will cover this.

Why not run it by Autozone or another shop and have them read the codes in the ECU? That should tell you what's happening. -Tim "jas kim" <jasguild@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:835954ae.0307211158.72dd6b24@posting.google.com...

Civic vs Corola
Posted on 07-28-2003 | 52 Comments

We are thinking on buy a new car. I had several civics and I was looking at the new corolla. Toyota has $500 rebate, but Honda has a 1.9% interest rate. Both look like good cars, and I know Toyota is as dependable as the civics. I am looking for opinions on the corolla, what do you think about both cars? I know invoice price on corollas, but all of them include extra "packages" which is hard to know what's a good price for the packages. I need a dependable car which I will keep for around 6...

I just bought an 89 Supra turbo that is losing oil, and I have no idea where it's going. However, I just noticed something weird. I might be retarded, but it looks like my oil cap has a chunk missing from it. Here are photos: http://8bitrevolution.net:81/photos/cars/toyota/supra/IMG_1327.JPG http://8bitrevolution.net:81/photos/cars/toyota/supra/IMG_1329.JPG How could that happen?!

2000 Avalon remote program
Posted on 07-27-2003 | 6 Comments

This list usually has a long life. I posted a question about the possibility of programming the 2000 Avalon remote to unlock both doors with the first button push. I then went out of town and came back to discover that the list is shortened and my question, and I assume any answers, scrolled off. So I apologize for asking again: Is there a way to get the remote to open both doors with the first

ford

i think the fact that people are still using their early '70s f-150s as everyday work trucks is a testament to ford's durability. i see it pretty often. what i do *not* see is a 70's toyota pickup loaded with a rack of tools. one block from my house is the first street of a new subdivision, at least 20 pickup trucks come through daily. there are a few tundras and tacomas, but at least 9 times out of ten, the ones loaded up with tools or materials and "jim's construction" on the door are not...

JD Power survey - ???
Posted on 07-27-2003 | 2 Comments

According to the Wall Street Journal, "Toyota dominated the rankings. Its popular Lexus brand received J.D. Power's highest ranking for reliability for the ninth year in a row, with just 163 problems per 100 vehicles, compared with the industry average of 273 problems per 100 vehicles. Toyota models received the highest ranking in nine of the 17 vehicle categories J.D. Power measured this year." 163 problems per 100 vehicles?! Could that be correct?

Help? Correct head gasket for 88 Tercel?
Posted on 07-26-2003 | 1 Comments

I'm replacing the head gasket on my 1988 Tercel. (3E engine). I bought a new gasket at my local NAPA store. The new gasket is almost identical to the old one. But there are two coolant holes in the old gasket that are not in the new gasket. The holes in the old gasket are rough and rusty. Could they have corroded/eroded through? They are both at the water pump end of the gasket.

86 Corolla valve adjustment
Posted on 07-26-2003 | 1 Comments

Here I set with engine almost ready to reassemble (86 4ALC) and wondering how to adjust the valves. No, I know how to do it, but the procedure calls out for it to be done hot and kinda hard to do when the engine has not been ran yet. So do I adjust it cold put it together and fire it up till hot and readjust or heat up the head and adjust? If the later how hot must the head be?
