89 Camry - Quick to Fail Coil? Problem - Totally Baffled
Posted on 03-04-2004 | 2 Comments

I did, yesterday put in a new Toyota coil thinking that since we had changed the ecu and igniter that it would solve the problem - lasted for the trip home, then the car wouldn't start, looks like no spark. When you try and start it now, it almost sounds like it tries to run as soon as you turn off the key (maybe trying to run backwards?). That's what got me yesterday - new coil gone in a matter of minutes.... "Steve S." <steve21050@msn.com> wrote in...

"Tom" <sg7188@snet.net> wrote in message news:Gjt1c.20898$3t5.1177@newssvr31.news.prodigy.com... New VWs are shipped with a solar battery maintainer. The customer never sees them, though, as they are removed before the cars are put on the lot. I don't know about other makes, but it seems a logical thing to do. Put a maintainer on a prius and you now have a solar-electric-hybrid! Woo woo!

Engine oil leak in '96 Corolla( 100K miles )

THanks everyone for your help. I went to two mechanics - first told me that they have to dis-assemople the engine and will cost > $600. The second one fixed it for $150 saying one of the linings on the top was loose. The car is running fine now. No appreciable oil loss in last two days. Souvik

If it took this long for the original cable to break, then I would say that first you should call the dealer and get a GEN-YOO-WINE Toyota replacement cable.. Second, install the cable without doing anything special to it except taking it out of the bag. You are done and should have another quarter-century of service from the cable without trouble.

Power steering fluid and coolant reserve tank residue

With the automatic transmission, the fluid needs to be up to the full hot mark, but with the power steering, I just fill it to the full cold mark so that the level is between hot and cold marks during operation. I could be wrong, but I think the level in the power steering reservoir is less critical, as long as it is not too low.

"Barb Kostyk" <bkostyk@shaw.ca> spake unto the masses in news:uTy0c.634673$JQ1.136587@pd7tw1no: Get used to it. You're in Canada. When they spread salt and sand on the roads in the winter, a certain proportion of the sand is big enough to be called gravel. And it's EVERYWHERE when you drive. When that stuff gets kicked up by the car in front and hits your car fast enough, you get a nice big chunk taken out of your paint.

Just wrap the head of the key in a layer or two of aluminum foil. This block radio frequencies quite effectively. If the car wont start after the head is wrapped, you have a transponder key. Trust me, this works... DFE
