if you look at the total numbers that went to Vietnam, 6,140/101 is
virtually none, he's not backpedaling you two are.

Governors have this little thing called Line Item Veto, he could have cut
out the bad parts and sent the bill trough, but chose not too, another great
decision by our great Pres.

but at least he went to a combat situation and didn't make a mockery of it
like our current Pres. I know a few vets that served but thought they should
have never been over there.

Rebs. apart.

make Kerry out as some sort of traitor in some feeble attempt
at making Bush's avoidance of combat look good.

The only people who bring this up are conservatives who
want to discredit him in order to make their own draft dodging
wimp president look better.

There are many way to dodge the draft. Clinton used his brains,
was a Rhodes scholar and was able to avoid the draft that
way. Bush used his connections and got a cream puff gig with
the national Guard and even didn't have to complete that.
Also were not talking about Iraq. As usual you can't
focus on the subject.

GWB had about a zero chance of being called up.
Only a few thousand Guard members were called up for duty in Vietnam during
the 10 years of the war, and the Guard was known as a haven for those who
wished to avoid service in the war zone. Numerous Guard units now have been
deployed for service in Iraq.

Facts are lost on you. What is the percentage compared to
people in regular Army. Also most were from the ARMY national
Guard. Bush served in the AIR national guard were he had
essentially zero chance of serving.

during the war, only with the people who try to make a issue from it and
use twisted logic to make either one look bad and the other good, whether
it's trying to demonize a man who served his country and followed
his conscious after the war, or trying to dig up some garbage about GWB
being AWOL.

Have you ever heard of a ship called
"Rueben James"?
Hitler foolishly declared war on us after Japan did.

I;m not minimizing their deaths by any means, but the totals:
http://members.aol.com/WarLibrary/vwc0.htm
2,100,000 people served. 58,152 died.
Army 1,407,000 people served. 38,179 died.
Reserves 6140 people saw combat. 101 died.
(note hundreds of thousands of Guard members never went overseas)
Everyone KNEW what the point of joining The Guard was at the
time - to have virtially no chance of actually seeing combat.
**Casualties**
Status USA % USMC % USN % USAF %
Vol'teer 16374 (48.8) 12784 (91.9) 1764 (91.6) 808 (89.1)

NatlGuard 68 (.2) -- -- 1 (0.1)
Unknown 69 (.2) 25 (0.1) 13 (0.6) 96 (10.5)
Um - the last two are barely a blip on the radar. This site says that
only 69 National Guard members died, and only ONE from the air National
Guard.
One Air National Guard member died in combat? In the whole war?
But - yeah - go on believing that Bush wasn't hiding out.
