Philip, I am not "holding on" to the Vega engine. I was only indicating my concern about an aluminum cylinder bore holding up. The fix for the Vega was an after market cast iron sleeve job. Do you know how long Toyota has been using this technology engine? Who else is using this technology? I worked for IBM for 40 years on large systems. Specifications were always important to our customers, and to me as well. Between the specs and the MTBF (mean time between failure), you could make good...
- Prius - Why aren't you buying one?
- Posted on 03-07-2004 | 86 Comments
Failure to understand the facts one reads reflects on the intelligence of reader, not the person posting the facts. A TAX DEDUCTION is a CREDIT toward the total TAX due after all gross income deductions, as is the cae with the Prius. An INCOME DEDUCTION, accelerated at 80%, as was the case with trucks only allows a deduction from gross income to be tax free, as explained below, if you care to re-read what was posted. It appears you still don't understand how that portion of the American...
- Removing Radio/CD of a Corolla (model: Sol, E12T)?
- Posted on 03-07-2004 | 3 Comments
Hey Peter... Have you considered having a local pro do it? Im sure there is a car audio shop near you. They could do it quickly, with a warranty, and have you listening to the new radio already. Just a thought.
- Warranty Direct or other warranties
- Posted on 03-07-2004 | 8 Comments
I believe you missed the point of my post. 'Historically only about ONE PERCENT of all manufactures extended service plans, ever pay out more than the cost of the plan and its deductibles.' I was referring to the fact that even the best of warranties from manufactures paying just claims are not a good investment. On average 99% never pay out what they COST, let alone more than they cost. Believing one will save money buying an extended warranty is a fallacy.
- Proper tire pressure for '03 Camry?
- Posted on 03-07-2004 | 2 Comments
Call a Toyota dealer. They would know. The pressures listed on a tire sidewall are the maximum pressures for that tire. One must still follow the car manufacturer's reccomendation for the particular car. "Bill Bodinson" <fsubilly730@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:e31d7061.0403062145.204af71a@posting.google.com...
- New Transmission
- Posted on 03-07-2004 | 12 Comments
The deal is set already. At $300 for the parts lot, it's a steal considering that wreckers want at least $300 for a used transmission. The purpose of getting another transmission is to be able to work on one while still driving the car. Since I double clutch by force of habit (years of driving cars with bad synchros) any transmission I drive will likely last. I'm glad to hear you're keeping your 83 celica. Those are nice cars too. Jennie - Never mind Philip, people let him stay here because he says something mildly useful from time to time.... ;-) It's a 14mm bolt in the oil pan, changing the oil is really quite simple but has to be done properly or very bad things can result. If you are even moderately mechanical it's a snap. Some tips if you've never done it before...

Toyota engines just don't go belly up and whoops! you need a new engine! If the car was severely neglected (and I mean severe), then I could understand. Fact of the matter is, Toyota doesn't make junk that craps out 100,000 miles later. -Tim
