skin through the ages...
Posted on 09-21-2003 | 1 Comments

I've noticed that my skin is changing. I'm still oily, but something is different: my undereye area seems a little more crepey than supple, I have pigmentation areas (yes, I wear an SPF practically every day), but the tone and behavior, for lack of better word, is different. I no longer have the skin of a twenty something (I'm really glad, though, I had the worst cystic acne. Stubborn too. It didn't respond to Accutane after the first go round). I'm early thirties, and I think my skin...

Skin Care Line for Teens
Posted on 09-20-2003 | 12 Comments

I know we are all skin care fiends here and have tried about every line...but has anyone found anything that really works well for "young" skin. Talking about Blondie specifically...we've been trying various lines out there and just haven't found anything great. She's gotten a few blackheads and we've tried just about everything on the market and nothing seems to work. Came across a line at the mall ProActiv, they claim great results for teen skin. But just wondering what the AF pros are...

clogged pores on nose
Posted on 09-20-2003 | 22 Comments

I have read a lot of negative reviews on the Biore strips, for cleaning out clogged pores. Most reviews feel that they didn't work worth a darn! I really need to find SOMETHING that will pull out the stuff from the pores on my nose. Sorry..I know this is gross, but I have never found anything yet that truly works. When I look into my 7X magnifying mirror and see all the clogged pores, I usually gently, with my fingers wrapped in kleenex, squeeze a lot of the stuff out, but within a day or two,...

beginner's skin care help needed
Posted on 09-20-2003 | 5 Comments

Ok, I am 29 have pretty good skin, maybe on small pimple every couple of months. My main problem is my skin is *DRY*, it peels and flakes in Winter :-( Currently I use Cetaphil for moisturizer, and wear foundation (Elizabeth Arden mousse) 6 days a week. I wash my face only with water in the shower. The Cetaphil works ok, but I would like more moisture, maybe I should use it more than once a day :-)

fashion mag recs, please

What magazines would you suggest for a beginner? I am primarily looking for skin care/makeup trend, tips. I suspect Vogue isn't really something I would enjoy, so other than that....? Thanks Sandra

For clothing, I haven't been lucky enough to find any one label that always works out for me. But in color cosmetics, I've always done well with MAC and Chanel. The formulations work well for me, as long as I don't goof up and buy a color I know I don't look good in. In skincare, Neutrogena has been a safe bet -- good results and no bad reactions.. In haircare, the entire Rusk Sensories line has been great. Stephanie

Re: Are BlissLabs Sleeping Peel & Exfoliating Mask all that?
Posted on 09-17-2003 | 2 Comments

I tried the Sleeping Peel serum and used about half the bottle. I saw nothing. I had the mask on backorder but decided to cancel. I have to say my skin is pretty well taken care of tho and so visible improvement is rare. I like the Blisslabs Task Masks better. They dry to a thick rubber-like consistency and come off in one piece. Very fun! I bought 2 from ebay at a considerable discount, lightening and tightening.

Botox...any AF updates?
Posted on 09-17-2003 | 16 Comments

I've got an appointment on the 24th that a GF made for me. She's been going for quite some time. The results are nice on her...but she kinda talked me into this. But now I am reading stuff on the net from the various Botox sites and kinda stepping back and perhaps chickening out. I keep reading about people suffering from Droopy Eye. One poor woman had Botox done a few days before her wedding and her eye is really drooping bad and they are telling her on the board that it may be that way for...

Holy Grails - do you stick with them?
Posted on 09-15-2003 | 27 Comments

For those of you who have found what works for you, do you stick with your HG products, or do you still have to try and latest, new and improved products? I realized today that more and more I'm sticking with what works. ~For hair styling - Physique Keep it Straight Lotion mixed with a shine spray works great for me. No need to try or switch to anything else. I *know* this combo works. I do still try different shampoos/conditioners.

Do Facials really work?
Posted on 09-15-2003 | 4 Comments

Hi there, today I just saw a show about age defying secrets. Iman, David Bowie's wife was on the show. She said the secret to her youthful look, she's 47 by the way, is that she swears by facials as her regular skin care routine. She looks terrific. Is anyone here a regular facial customer and does it really work? Thanks. Debbie

Lemming's Remorse

Have you ever rushed headlong into a lemming purchase only to discover that, aptly, lemmings usually leap off a cliff into the ocean? (BTW, can't lemmings SWIM?) What have you purchased in the spirit of the moment and have regretted it? -Joe in SoFla I don't care, and you can't make me.

Here's my favorite way to use the SSE (which I absolutely adore): The MA applied it to my face mixed with a light moisturizer (about 40% SSE, 60% moisturizer) blended with the fingertips, and then applied a teensie-weensie amount on my less-than-perfect spots with a tiny concealer brush and carefully blended. I haven't used any other foundation or concealer in a month. This has got to be a record for me. love love love this stuff. Nancy

OK, so I got my samples in the mail-- How do I apply this? The vials have a very tiny amount of foundation and I remember reading a little goes a long way, so please enlighten me, af! -- Julie P. The long moratorium report (long)
Posted on 09-10-2003 | 12 Comments

On September 4, 2002, I posted the following: So, OK ... how'd I do? Hmmmm. Pretty well in some ways, and not so well in others. First of all, I actually used up every single cake of soap, bottle of shower gel, drop of shampoo, dab of conditioner, and blob of body butter in the house. This meant I actually had to buy soap, shampoo, shower gel,

Celebrity Products--Are There Any You Like?
Posted on 09-10-2003 | 10 Comments

I received a gift of some Connie Stevens skin care stuff (years ago) and found that it was very heavily fragranced, didn't do anything that it claimed to do, and I think I had an allergic reaction to boot! I've never bought anything by Tova, Victoria Jackson, Susan Lucci, Suzanne Somers, Delta Burke, (etc, etc) and my Connie Stevens experience naturally made me wary. I'm wondering if anyone has been pleased with their purchases of beauty or fashion items from celebrities? Or, for that...

B&BW Pure Simplicity line
Posted on 09-09-2003 | 9 Comments

Has anyone tried the new B&BW skin care line? Soooo tempting. Natural ingredients such as milk thistle, oat, rice, white tea, tomato, pumpkin, etc... My store has a deal - spend $10 and get a free gift. I resisted the temptation till I knew something about the line.

Skin Swatches
Posted on 09-06-2003 | 2 Comments

For those who like the Skin Swatches, their fall/winter 2003 collection is out, and they have some really nice ones to offer. I ordered 4 styles from http://www.squiggly.com, and they're also shown/sold on http://www.swatch.com. Interestingly some of the ones shown on Squiggly are not shown on the Swatch site yet. Linda

Last night we had a pretty rough storm pass through the area...no cable modem, no cable tv...although we did have electricity...so I did the AF black out sorta thing....cleaned and organized my makeup. I went through all my draws, cabinets, bags and what not and put my lipsticks, glosses, balms etc into two small Sephora bags. TWO SMALL SEPHORA BAGS!! Both filled to the top. Then I took all my eyeshadows and blushes and tossed them into one shared small Sephora bag.

Boscia Skin Care Product Review
Posted on 09-03-2003 | 1 Comments

I bought a few products after Lucky Magazine had a promo with Boscia: The promo was spend $50 and get a cleanser and night cream FREE (full size). Purifying cleansing gel - this is a nice gentle cleanser. I've been using in the AM as I'm hooked on my cleansing cloths. Wouldn't purchase it though. Recharging Night Moisture - Very nice cream which is not greasy. It is
