- Why Do You Wear Make-up?
- Posted by AJM
Related to the recent mother-influence on our make-up and fazhion thread, why
do you wear make-up?
I uzed to wear make-up 24/7 b/c I had to cover up bad, bad zkin. I uzed to
think that I would never be able to go make-up free like my bezt friendz. Now,
my zkin lookz great and I don't wear foundation on the weekendz. I'm actually
zhocked about thiz!
I wear make-up now b/c I'm too tooooo pale without it and I looked more
polizhed at work. I could give up wearing foundation but could never give up
bluzh and mazcara and eye liner becauze I really need the color.

Pale skin, light eyes, blonde brows and lashes and dark brown hair--oh what a
sense of humor God has about these things. It's the perfect coloring to go
blonde, but I didn't like how people treated me.

-it's fun
-it's artistic
-it makes me feel better inside
-it shows an effort to look attractive to the people that have to look at me
day after day
-I think it provides a covering to match my inner persona
-I feel naked and exposed without it (outside the house, that is)
-it's a female tradition

I wear make-up when I want to appear to be more dressed up or to accentuate my
eyes and lips.

I wear it because it's fun and it can make me look better/different. I've
always loved crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc. and it's like a grown
up version of that. It makes me happy to see all my cosmetic items and the
various colors, packaging, etc.

Went to lunch with some friends, and got asked several times if I
was feeling OK.
Guess I'd better put a mini-mascara in my pistol case <g>.

Because without makeup I'd look sickly. On really bad days, I'd look comatose.
I think that's reason enough.

- to even out my skin tone, balance my uneven eyebrows, cover
hereditary dark undereye circles. Makeup makes me look fresher,
well-rested.
- to accent my eyes, lips, and cheekbones.
- it's fun and artistic, and I get to express different personas,
depending on how subtle or how daring my makeup application is that
day. The Kevin Aucoin book, "Making Faces", comes in handy for this.
- I tend to consider makeup part of grooming, along with a good
haircut, polished nails, suitable clothing.
- To simulate sex?!! From "Make-up like a pro": "The reason we wear
makeup is to reproduce the way we look when we are having sex. We wear
blush because our cheeks get flushed, we wear lipstick because the
blood flows to our lips, we wear eye makeup to make our eyes look
bigger because our pupils dilate."

Because I enjoy colours.
Because buying cosmetics is a simple indulgence on a gloomy day.

LOL, it's certainly my favorite answer. Besides, who am I to argue
with a makeup expert? :-)

I look better with makeup than without it. Lips are more defined, lashes are
longer and thicker, skin is better, and all that. But I think it's more about
the artistry of it, at least for me. If it were really all about looking my
best, I would have a much smaller cosmetics collection because I've known for
years which things I need to do to get the most flattering, polished look
possible. Years of experience have taught me this basic truth, but I couldn't
live with such a spartan makeup kit, and I'd faint from boredom if I had to
run the same routine every morning. It'd be just one more chore to accomplish.
I love the creative outlet of doing a different makeup application every day,
and I look forward to that part of my morning.

This happens to me every time I try to break the eyeliner habit. I usually
last about 3 days of constantly being asked whther I'm sick, tired, etc.,
before I give up and start lining my lower lids again.

I don't wear it as often as I would if I had all the time and energy I
need. but I do wear it because it makes me look more alive, it makes
me look more professional (when I'm in a professional setting),
because my eyelashes used to be long and full and they aren't anymore.
when I wear makeup, I wear eyeshadow, mascara, blush and a light
lipstick. I used to wear nail polish but since I'm back to natural
nails, it doesn't stay on. (what is the revlon nailpolish that really
does last a week or more? I couldnt' figure it out when I was at
Target.) I rarely wear foundation. I always use polish on my
toenails, especially when I have major damage from skiing! (and
because I do Nia and have my feet out inthe world regularly)
