I have a 1989 Honda accord LXI 4d with 1.4 liter engine. Automatic
Trannie Reverse barily works and I have to keep in in D3 to drive it .
It doesn't want to shift into 4th gear. I called around looking for
estimates for a rebuild and the lowest I have gotten so far is $850USD

Is that too high? Way too low. I am around the cincinnati Ohio area so
any help would be great.

$850 sounds too low, even to just install a used unit.

I had a 89 Civic LX automatic transmission rebuilt in 2001 in Dayton, OH and
it cost me $1525. This included a rebuild kit, new torque convertor,
replaced 2nd gear and a couple of other bearings.

Where do you get an '89 Accord with a 1.4L? In America they are about 2.0L

Well an update.

850 was wrong. I had a used unit installed for $250 and I Paid $425 with a
warrenty on it. I take it to my guy and he puts it in and low and behold it
doesn't work right. I call the parts place tell them and they have spent 2
weeks trying to find me a working tranmission. So now if by monday they
don't find me one I get my money back and I can just keep the transmission.

Plan is after that to rebuild the OLD one and drive around on the one that
doesn't work right (same problem clutch pack in Overdrive and reverse is
dead).
