98 accord ex/auto -- check engine light
Posted on 02-09-2004 | 5 Comments

Mike, yes, gas line anti-freeze. But even if it was prestone antifreeze it wouldn't matter since I didn't put it. And my question was if not putting any anti-freeze could be the cause for the engine light being on. I usually don't wait for the engine to warm up completely but this morning I did. And the idle dropped almost to 500revs and the car started jumping a little. Usually it stays between 750 and 1000revs and the warming up is smooth. Once I turn from parking to D4 and hold the brakes,...

Is it time to sell my 96 civic?
Posted on 02-08-2004 | 10 Comments

I agree with J. Perry-- Honda's are renowned for their longevity; drive it till it DROPS! About a year ago we sold off two domestics we had: a 1999 Plymouth Voyager & a 1998 Chevrolet Metro. And boy- did we ever take a hit on depreciation! Not as bad on the Metro, but brutal on the Voyager- yikes! We then purchased a new Odyssey & Civic, because we wanted some motoring confidence going forward, some sense of security that we wouldn't be forking out for repairs here & there (we have 4 kids so we...

88 prelude clutch problem
Posted on 02-07-2004 | 6 Comments

Hi Matthew, Be a good thing to be sure before you give up on the idea it might be the hydraulics. Pick up a $20 hand-operated vacuum pump and quart of brake fluid at your local auto parts and bleed the system. Certainly won't hurt to refresh the fluid. Also, look for fluid up under the dash on the firewall -- if the master cylinder's leaking, that's where you'll see it. The bad news you already know -- if it's not the hydraulic master-slave clutch system, then you have to pop off the...

I do not know for sure.

I had a 1998 Accord 4 cylinder and you pretty much just learn to live with the noise.Took car in for valve adjustment at around same mileage to see if it would lessen vavle tap and it seemed a little quieter but not night and day quiet. I wish I had LX climate controls like yours in My 2004 EX. I hope control designer gos to work for another car company before next generation is on the drawing board.
