Body Corrosion - West Coast of Florida - Need Experiences
Posted by KR

Hi There,

I'm looking into picking up a 1997 Accord from an area north of the Tampa
Bay area. It has low miles, looks like it has been garaged and well taken
care of.

I wanted to see if anyone has had any experiences, good or bad concerning
body corrosion with Hondas, especially the '94-'97 generation from this
area. Do Hondas usually keep a solid body in this geographic area? The car
has been located in the New Port Richie area for it's entire existence.

I have been doing some checking, and I hear comments bad and good.

Thanks!

Florida cars live forever, as long as you have maintenance performed. The
engine/transmission will die before the body does.

If you saw a FL vehicle with rust, it could be one of three things:
1 - The car lived at the shore with the constant salt spray
2 - The car's previous life was not in sunny FL. More like Boston, Buffalo,
Detroit, etc.... salt city!
3 - The car was involved in a Hurricane flood. And probably sat in salt
water for a while.

So be more worried about the mechanics of the car and put your mind to rest
with rusting out. To feel safer with your upcoming purchase, run the VIN
number through CarFax (or similar). Its a good idea with any vehicle
purchase.
