I think your mechanic was referring to the specific engine he used in YOUR car. It might be already a rebuilt one, one with a previously cracked block (or whatever)... did he tell you where he got this engine? If however the engine is fine (non damaged), then dont worry about his self-imposed RPM limit. 2-4k RPM is the normal driving range, usually, but going above 4500 wouldnt do any damage. I believe that in 5th you'll be going above 140 km at least, to need to go above 4500. "Jonathan...

I believe you missed the point of my post. 'Historically only about ONE PERCENT of all manufactures extended service plans, ever pay out more than the cost of the plan and its deductibles.' I was referring to the fact that even the best of warranties from manufactures paying just claims are not a good investment. On average 99% never pay out what they COST, let alone more than they cost. Believing one will save money buying an extended warranty is a fallacy.

"Adrian" <adrian@xxx.xxx> wrote in message news:tMo2c.68969$vn.201268@sea-read.news.verio.net... I'm wondering just what car you were driving. My 03 EX V6 is so quiet inside that I frequently find myself looking at the tach in order to see if I actually need to shift or not. More than once I've been motoring happily down the highway, and glancing down at the tach found (to my horror) it sitting at 5000 rpm, because I had forgotten to shift out of 4th, and thought I was in 6th. I simply don't...
