- Where to buy medicine
- Posted by Wim van Haaften
The sister of my girlfriend proves to be seropositive, and recently
began to be ill. She has been examined by a doctor, and now, she needs
the following combination of medicines: Triomun, Diovir and Nevimun.
The sister of my girlfriend lives in Bangui in her native country
Central African Republic.
Is there any information about the availability of this medicine in
her country? If so, please forward this information to me. I would be
very grateful to you. And if it proves to be difficult to obtain these
medicines in Africa, where is the best place to buy it in Europe?
I am living in Holland.
Thanks a great lot in advance!!!

Wow--no, she doesn't! That's actually a combination of three drugs
(triomune), two drugs (Duovir) and nevirapine.
I think these drugs are available there. See:
www.accessmed-msf.org/documents/factsheetfdc.pdf
The drugs you mention are the generic forms of AZT (zidovudine), 3TC
(lamivudine), d4T (stavudine) and nevirapine. The triomune has d4t,
3TC and nevirapine in one pill. This might be a good option for her.
However, there are increasing data that the thymidine analogs are the
proximate cause of lipoatrophy--that is, the drugs like AZT and d4T
cause the loss of fat in limbs and face. Lower doses may be as
effective. I hope she has a physician she can see there. Perhaps there
is an MSF office in Bangui?
