GRID (Gay-Related Immunodeficiency Disease).
Gays were happy to have their own language, meeting places, music,
fashion and mannerisms, but having their own disease was something
they weren't happy about.
Lots of marching, flag waving and campaigning to convince the world
that 'anyone can get AIDS' followed. Scientists around the world were
enlisted to find out what was causing GRID.
Robert Gallo steps into the limelight. In 1984 he announced at a
press conference that he had discovered a new virus called HIV causes
AIDS and had a test, to secure his pension fund, that proved it.
The facts that Robert Gallo was a thief and a liar, and that his HIV
theory and test hadn't been checked and verified didn't matter. Gays
were happy because GRID wasn't a punishment from God and the world was
promised a cure was only a matter of a few years away.
Unfortunately no cure materialised, on the whole only gays continued
to get AIDS, and the 'anyone can get AIDS' mantra was shown to be a
lie.
So, what next? HIV and AIDS were given to Africa. There's plenty of
sick people there, most of them would claim to be heterosexual rather
than gay or bisexual. It was a simple way to bump up the HIV and AIDS
figures, which were flagging, and to show that HIV and AIDS affects
heterosexuals as well as homosexuals.
AIDS wasn't invented by the US government to kill black people. HIV
was invented by Robert Gallo at the behest of gays to disguise how
their lifestyle caused them to become ill.
