- Should I be worried?
- Posted by Jim D
Today, I wnt to my usual medical centre (in the UK) for a flu
innoculation. They said I can have one immediately and would I please
wait in the waiting room, which I did. A few minutes later a man
called my name and asked me to follow him. He led me into a
consulting room and proceeded to give me the jab. No problems so far.
Then he said, "Oh, it's bleeding a little." and fetched a little swab
and wiped it once. Then, since it was obviously still bleeding a
little, he proceeded to wipe it repeatedly *with his bare, uncovered
finger* In a flash, the alarm bells were ringing in my mind saying
"Beware: Danger of H.I.V. transmission!".
Can H.I.V be transmitted from human sweat into a bleeding wound (even
a tiny bleeding wound)? How concerned should I be at this point?
Thank you for any frank and honest replies. I do tend to worry perhaps
more than I should.

Concerned enough to see a psychiatrist or therapist?
Possibly.
About becoming HIV-infected from the described scenario: not in the
slightest.

No.
Not very, if at all, in regards to HIV infection.
But if this actually happened, you should report it to "the man's"
supervisor.
