saliva in blood from sharing a joint (marijuana)?
Posted by ml34b@hotmail.com

saliva from one persons mouth on a joint then the next person
has a cut on his/her lip or finger tip and gets the saliva in it. i
guess this is about as much a risk as kissing. any comments on this?

is there any case in history were someone got aids this way?
thanks,
mike

i am not expert! but i find tis silly! i think your imuum system would
crash sooner through using drugs then through the other option!

drug is wel know to have bad impact on the imuum system!

if oral contact was cause of transmition then i think much more people
would be effected!

if i read it right saliva is anti bactirial, anti-virus!

Oral contact is a possible mode of transmission but relatively low
risk.

To a certain extent. So what?

i think if someone caught it this way it would make the news big time.
like if caught from kissing. i would think kissing more risky than
sharing a joint. but interesting anyway. i don't think anyone really
has
addressed this subject before.

so you are saying that smoking pot can produce aids like symtoms
in a hiv free person? huh??

I've addressed it before. While I admit it seems unlikely, I still
refuse to share a joint or pipe with anyone with HIV (and I think
I won't share with anyone cuz I got a very bad bacterial respiratory
infection that way a few years ago). You shouldn't share joints or
pipes with ANYONE, not because of HIV but because of things like
meningitis (often transmitted in college dorms where students share
sodas and food), Hepatitis A (easily transmitted through saliva),
and herpes (spread through kissing, so why not the step of a pot
pipe?). And I mentioned I caught the nastiest respiratory
infection that took two antibiotics and almost two weeks to get rid
of. Also, why saliva itself might not be the best carrier of HIV,
many people have oral/dental problems that cause bleeding gums,
they have cuts or cold sores in their mouths, etc., all of which
can cause infected blood to mix with saliva, and also if you are
HIV- and have those things in your mouth it provides an access
point for the virus to enter your bloodstream. It would seem to
be best to avoid it, but unfortunately there is no way to do it
without offending the person you refuse to smoke with. You'll
have to decide whether your fear of death outweighs your fear of
offending them.

As for kissing, they actually did demonstrate at least one case
of HIV transmission through kissing. One partner was HIV+ and
the other HIV- and both apparently had very poor teeth and gums
and blood in his saliva is believed to have transmitted it to
her.
