Remember "HIV=AIDS=DEATH" what a great prognosis, ?
I wonder what effects living under a "false" death sentance might have,?
I wonder what long term exposure to stress can do,?
I wonder what effects living under a "death sentance", "hiv" vudu hex of
"predicted" "doom" for over a decade might have ?

And ALL the "high-risk-groups" who are the vast majority of cases in the
west have always throughout history been socialy margines, discrimated
against, persecuted, hounded, degraded, hated, mocked and murdered ?

Social stress 'can kill' BBCNews.com 9-3-01

Stressed mice were more vulnerable to the effects of a bacterial infection
- Social stress can trigger potentially deadly over-activity by the immune
system, scientists have found. Although the research was carried out on
mice, the US scientists believe the results could be directly relevant to
humans.

They found that stressful social interactions stimulated a dangerous
inflammatory response in the mice equivalent to the human condition septic
shock. The mice were put into either "social stress" or a "physical
restraint" groups. In the first, subordinate mice were placed in a cage
with an aggressive dominant mouse for two hours a day. Mice from the
second group were confined in a cylindrical tube for 16 hours without
access to food or water. When the mice were exposed to a bacterial toxin
the socially stressed animals were twice as likely to die as those
suffering physical hardship.

Cytokines - The stressed mice were found to produce high levels of
chemicals called cytokines. These chemicals regulate the functioning of
the immune system. However, they can stimulate inflammation. Not only were
cytokines higher in the stressed mice, the chemicals seemed to be
resistant to the effect of other hormones called glucocorticoids, which
normally keep inflammation in check. The result was a mouse equivalent of
septic shock - a deadly disorder characterised by a severe fall in blood
pressure and widespread damage to body tissues.

Researcher Dr Ning Quan, from Ohio State University in Columbus, said:
"During infection, there is a balancing act of the immune system. You want
inflammatory cells to kill the bacteria at the site, but you don't want
too many at the site. "Septic shock is directly association with
over-inflammation. Sometimes it's not the infection itself that kills a
person; rather, it's that the body doesn't properly respond to
inflammation."

Doctors had noted glucocorticoid resistance in people who were suffering
from major depression or infected with HIV. Dr Quan said: "Chronic social
stress in these patients may contribute to the development of
glucocorticoid resistance, which could put these folks at increased
susceptibility to inflammatory diseases including septic shock." The
research is published in the Journal of Neuroimmunology.

Theres also further evidence of this published ages ago in Continuum
Magazine as reported in New York Times by the Science editor back in 1995
when I was in Haiti. Massive migration of T cells under stress oh how
shocking what percent was that decrease again? 70 % +.

Too often it was true.

Ask my friend Casper Schmidt...he wrote some interesting papers on
this. I utterly agree that such negative thinking can be dangerous. He
talked about a false kuru outbreak.
There's no doubt that stress contributes to AIDS. But it does not
cause a constant decline in CD4 count that comes with HIV.

Nonetheless, it does point to addressing BOTH the endocrine and
psychological features that go with HIV disease. Depression among HIV+
is well characterized (of course, not always related to being HIV but
other life stressors). Addressing endocrine disruptions like increased
cortisol and lowered DHEA is important--Casper characterized that. He
tried sulfated DHEA, believing that addressing the dysregulation in
the HPA axis could fix things up. Indeed, he's been listed in
denialist websites.

I think he forgot that HIV does exist and cause AIDS. And about issues
like decreased testosterone. Addressing the HPA axis wasn't
enough--and he died of AIDS many years ago. He was a cool guy, despite
some of his goofier beliefs--and a very smart psychiatrist.

Once again, denialists take an important issue and fold, spindle and
mutilate it out of all recognition. My big fear is that this may cause
reasonable people to abandon looking at the genuine kernel of truth
reflected in the issue raised due to the fact it is embedded in such
garbage thinking.

Which is why the current teaching that HIV is a chronic manageable disease
is good news.
