Hmm. you complain about the [square bracket] additions but not about
the (parentheses) ones. Are the square brackets too harsh? Are the
parentheses kinder and gentler?
Maybe AIDS has made Pasquarelli kinder and gentler too? It would be
nice. Maybe that's why the name "AIDS" is so fitting.
