A - THE PERFORMANCE OF THE CONDOM AS A CONTRACEPTIVE

The Pearl contraceptive index is in fact relatively high for the condom,
being
between 8 and 15 (with extremes reaching up to 28)li lii.

The failure rate of the condom
in preventing pregnancy, defined as the probability of pregnancy over one
year for a
woman for whom the condom is the only means of contraception is of the
order of
15%liii liv. If the admitted failure rate of condom used as a method of
contraception is (5)

said to be 3% for couples using condoms "perfectly" (both consistently and
correctly)lv,
this failure rate is found to be 4% with couples highly motivated lvi and
rise to 12% in
"typical couples experience"(Albert and Hatcher, 1991)lvii.

Moreover, these contraceptive failure rates are conservative estimates,
since each exposure does not result in pregnancy lviii.

This condom failure may explain the relationship between condom use and
teen age pregnancy ratelix. 11% of the women's unplanned pregnancies at
the Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, USA, were attributed to condom
failurelx. 27% of the abortions performed at the hôpital Saint Louis in
Paris are said to be requested
because of condom failure lxi.

Of the 4,666 women who came to be aborted at the Marie Stopes Centre in
Leeds, England, between 1989 and 1993, 40% of them blamed
condom failure for their pregnancyl xii.
In the study reported by M.Gabbay et al.(1996)lxiii,
83% of female students presenting for post-coital contraception at the
Rusholme Health Centre, Manchester, claimed condom failure as the cause.

One of the factors for contraceptive failure when using a condom is
certainly the
inexperience of the users lxiv.

A large scale American study on the efficiency of different condoms to
prevent pregnancies showed a failure rate of 15% among young users in
their first year of use, a rate which reduces to 2% among couples who are
expert in the use of this device lxv.

What's the citation for this oft-repeated material? But the last
paragraph proves the point. Condoms work pretty damn well.

It is true that condoms are NOT perfect protection or risk
elimination. They are risk reduction. People WILL fuck. People LOVE to
fuck. So they should do it knowing how to protect themselves and their
partners.

There should be condom use training in schools, instead of
hypocritical puritanism and nonsense. There should be encouragement to
delay debut, monogamy, abstinence. Sure! Give kids ALL THE OPTIONS.
But do not stint on the sexual education and use of condoms CORRECTLY
and this failure rate can be driven down further.

Thanks for making the point, Paul.

With a failure rate of betwwen 35% and 100% (Mariposa Study) and massive
toxic effects that can be lethal, condoms are just plain bad news.

'AIDS' is NOT an std. See the articles and CIA Factbook figures for
Holland and the Phillipines (500,000 prostitutes) and see how you can
justlfy tyhe std idea in face of such conclusive evidence.

Let's end this absurd scare myth and get back to an enlightened attutude
to sex.

Love without fear.

Then don't have sex. LOL. You sound like a Vatican supporter on this
issue.

In any case, that ancient Mariposa study is flawed in its
interpretation which you cling to despite evidence to the contrary. It
is truly quixotic that denialists will assert as incontrovertible fact
vague and insubstantial theories to explain away HIV and justify
rotten behavior while ignoring the mountains of data that simply
refute their nonsense. In this case, see, e.g.,
http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/ANSWERS/ANS00532.html

One of the important comments to be made is that people should use
fresh condoms.

HIV IS an STD. It causes AIDS.

Those data are not in the slightest conclusive (let alone trustworthy
coming from you). Look at the rate among sex workers in Mumbai versus
Kolkata. Look at the rates among other populations.

It varies.

An enlightened attitude toward sex is to enjoy it. But be aware that
there are risks. Minimize those risks.

Condoms are an excellent way to do that. Perfect? Nope.

No. Fucking irresponsibly based on fantasies is what you want. That's
hardly love.

I hope you really genuinely learn what love is about.
