Can't we stop this Bareback Crap?
Posted on 10-04-2003 | 10 Comments

Agree with me or not. The simple fact is that bareback sex is helping to spread the HIV virus among the day community. If you want to help stem the flood of new infections, send yahoo groups a complaint about these groups at http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/groups/cgi_abuse I am not an AIDS Nazi or Fascist. I am just an HIV Positive Individual that has had enough of sex without responsibility. If the increasing HIV Rate is not slowed, there will not be enough government resources available to...

AIDS insurance for UN employees
Posted on 10-02-2003 | 3 Comments

I just read about how the UN is trying to provide health insurance coverage for its employees that will also cover AIDS treatment. It cited examples of employees in UN buildings in African countries. These employees make about $50/month sweeping floors, scrubbing toilets, etc., but now they are lobbying for full medical coverage, including AIDS treatment, something of particular concern in a region where over a quarter of the population is infected. I think this is absolutely ridiculous! ...

Virus question?
Posted on 09-25-2003 | 14 Comments

The case of the 18yo teen who was arrested last week for spreading a variant of that computer worm got me thinking. He faces 10 years or more in prison and a huge fine. Why is it that spreading a computer virus is punished so harshly while spreading the HIV virus goes virtually unpunished? The guy's computer virus didn't even really cause any damage, only an inconvenience, but those who spread HIV inflict misery and an unpleasant death upon their victims.

This is too scary not to pass along

I recently read a report about the dangers of High Fructose Corn Syrup. I didn't believe it at first since the stuff is even in my healthy protein bars that I eat. But the report references several Clinical Studies done by reputable institutions. It's much more dangerous than just making you fat like the media has said. Well after I read the report, I went through my cupboard and threw away lots of stuff that my kids and I normally eat. You have to read this for yourself. I just can't believe...

Re: p24??? CD9 Aliases BA2; p24; MIC3; MRP-1; DRAP-27
Posted on 09-17-2003 | 19 Comments

p24 is a designation that refers to the size of a protein (24,000 daltons, more or less). So it may refer to different proteins. In the case of HIV, p24 refers to a core protein. However, here I don't understand. If you look up p24 and neuroblastoma, you get some interesting citations, mostly referring to in vitro conditions under which HIV, via infected macrophages or glial cells, induces production of toxic metabolites and by products that can damage neurons.

don't understand
Posted on 08-27-2003 | 14 Comments

I have for three years had an cd4-count below 200. I don't use medication and have no symptoms. I feel there is a sort of war going on inside my head - it is a matter of faith; should I belive in the voodo from the doctors or in what i in fact feel - that I am healthy. If I choose the doctors, I am sure I get sick very soon. One more thing; where is this infection? All the tests that show my immunsystem are normal. Even CRP was below 7 when I had my "primaer HIV-infection" four years ago - and...

Smoking and AIDS
Posted on 08-26-2003 | 1 Comments

Ive always wondered about the poltics of smoking and AIDS. I dont expect most people to be rational. Less so when it concerns an addiction. Still, my direct audience are those trying to cut down and could use extra incentive. Let's cut through the bullshit: there is little doubt that long-term smoking leads to health problems, cancer and inevitably death. I have AIDS but I do not smoke. Many of those I live around who have AIDS and those who provide care for me, are cigarette smokers. ...

Any News on immune-based therapies?/SARS and other zoonotic viruses
Posted on 08-25-2003 | 1 Comments

Just wondered if there's been any news on immune-based therapies for HIV, especially strain-specific vaccines, antibodies, and cultured CTLs? Any good research being done? Though SARS seems to have largely burned out, I feel it would be wise for international health agencies to develop a bank of vaccines specific to SARS and other zoonotic viruses in case of future outbreaks.
