This is a rather contentious article about how AIDS touched the family of president Mugabe in Zimbabwe. I especially found the following statement striking: " Correspondents say that despite the prevalence of Aids in Africa, deaths are more commonly blamed on TB, cancer or, more vaguely, on a long illness. " * How about malaria, sleeping sickness, or just simply malnutrition? As if cancer has been abolished in Africa.

Multivitamin found to slow pace of HIV By Stephen Smith, Globe Staff -- July 1, 2004 A simple multivitamin taken once a day dramatically slowed the progression of HIV in pregnant women in Tanzania, Harvard researchers report today, a finding that could herald a low-cost option for reducing disease and prolonging life in countries where more expensive treatments remain out of reach. The study from the Harvard School of Public Health offers the most

The Boston Globe is saying that "Estimates on HIV called too high" Does this sound familiar?: "Several AIDS specialists said they think the current estimate of 40 million people living with the AIDS virus worldwide is inflated by 25 percent to 50 percent, based on a wide spectrum of household surveys in nearly a dozen countries. That would go against the grain of years of assertions by UNAIDS that the disease is relentlessly on the rise. * A significant downward revision in AIDS and HIV numbers...

Can anyone out there help me? For the last two years I've tried all sorts of things to give up smoking. I am anxious to avoid the slippery slope of chain smoking and beyond..... Though I have cut back a little, really I'm still on the dreaded weed! If any ex-smokers have some ideas or could give me their own "quitting" experiences, I would be forever grateful.

Thank you all for your interest ! Would someone actually send along the name of a laboratory or names of laboratories that would test needles, syringes for infectious organisms, a laboratory where a doctor could have a needle, syringe tested in a case where the test results make a difference in treating the patient ?... Thank you for the information! Where would needles be tested as a method of quality control in manufacturing and packaging needles to make sure that those needles would not end up with some infectious organisms?... The only way to make sure that manufactured and packaged needles would not be infected would be to test them.

Exactly where would doctors send a needle for testing for infectious organisms after a needle stick in cases where the testing could make a difference for doctors and their patients?... I was watching my favorite TV show, "Queer as Folk" on Showtime a few weeks ago. Just before the program began they ran a public service announcement where a female actor from the show talked about the dangers of HIV and extolled the virtues of practicing safe sex and getting tested. I don't object to the message, of course, but I am trying to reconcile this with the propaganda I've been fed that HIV/AIDS is NOT a "gay disease," that EVERYONE is at EQUAL risk of contracting it. So why would...

In a scientific debate, where a given theory is being criticized on highly specific and well defined grounds, and its defenders resort to generalizations and vagueness, the odds are that its the defenders who are wrong. Take that darn debate over whether HIV exists, for example. Papadopulos-Eleopulos has criticized the HIV theory on many grounds, among them that the allegedly retroviral particles seen in EM pictures of density gradients do not have the right shape for retrovirus particles, are...
