Are there any ways to keep lipodystrophy at bay, and once the fat begins to accummulate, to "burn" it off? Kind regards, _____________________ D. Stephen Heersink San Francisco

I recall reading some years ago that gene therapy would find application in HIV infection. I believe it was Scientific American that ran an article and a researcher -Flossie Wong - Stahl- was leading and effort. Are there benefits here?

I still haven't got around to reading up on the method used to achieve the claimed sequencing of HIV. I wonder if anyone here can outline the protocol that was used and/or the relevant paper(s). - James
- Perth Group AIDS Debate in progress
- Posted on 06-09-2004 | 14 Comments
http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/eletters/326/7387/495#43617 This series of exchanges started off as a comment on an article on the 'politics of AIDS in South Africa' (http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/326/7387/495) but has turned into a debate between the Perth Group and their adversaries, notably Christian Noble and Tony Floyd. The Perth Group's contributions to this debate are carefully reasoned while those of the other side consist largely of hectoring and windy, pompous outrage....

Other data suggest that exclusive breastfeeding is the way to go. Otherwise, exclusive formula feeding is ONLY an option where an uninterrupted supply is available. George M. Carter *** Date: Wed, 02 Jun 2004 05:51:41 -0400 From: "ProNut-HIV" <pronut-hiv@healthnet.org> By Megan Rauscher

- Good numbers?
- Posted on 06-08-2004 | 4 Comments
My brother just had his first blood test since stopping his cocktail treatment last year. His numbers were a T-Cell count of 169 and a viral load of 38,000 (it had reached 600,000 several years ago). Are these numbers good or bad? He seems to be in good physical health at the moment. Our family is worried if he needs to begin a new cocktail right away, as he is currently mad as a hatter and locked up in a mental hospital and there is no way he is going to be able to comply with a medication...
- Is the virtual HIV Test from aidsgame.com accurate
- Posted on 06-07-2004 | 3 Comments
Hello professionals... Two days ago I got a mail from aidsgame.com via "tell a friend" which invited me to fill out their virutal HIV Test. aidsgame.com provides a "virtual" hiv risk estimation. Their HIV risk result was a little shock for me. So I tried to get a professional comment about my risk result from aids.org. (Aids.org is the Nr.1 in Google under the keyword AIDS)
- Question about TB
- Posted on 06-04-2004 | 9 Comments
I am a volunteer in one of the South African HIV Vaccine Trials. I am still in the pre-screening stage and one of the numerous tests that has been ordered has been a TB skin test. While I'm confused about why such a test would be ordered for an African trial - most people would test positive on it and it is not used at all for diagnostic purposes in South Africa - I nevertheless underwent the test this morning. I asked the nurse about what was likely to happen. She didn't tell me anything...

I tested positive for HIV when the tests became available in 1985, through tracing I can confirm exposure in 1981. From 1982 through 1992, I was in a committed relationship until my other half died of MAC. While my other half was on NRTI's for the last 4 (?) years of his life, we never practiced "safe sex" in our relationship, and I was the party most at risk for re-exposure to HIV. In 1996 my CD4 cell count dropped below 200 and due to medical problems I was defined as having AIDS. I went...

I know I'm probably boring y'all with my personal family problems, but here is an update on my psychotic HIV+ brother... The Seroquel isn't working. The doctor upped him to an incredible 800mg per day, and every night it is a chore to get him to take it. Then somehow he managed to score some crystal meth yesterday. I don't know where he got the money, as he is unemployed, has already ripped off every friend he has, and my father makes sure he never has more than 50 cents in his pocket at...
