Police say man may have spread HIV for a decade

A Windsor businessman who allegedly exposed sex partners in Canada and
Michigan to HIV may have had risky encounters dating back 10 years,
police said Wednesday.

Carl Leone, 28, is charged with two counts of assault and one count of
common nuisance for not disclosing his HIV status to two women. But
Windsor authorities said he may have exposed 200 women -- and,
indirectly, many more of their partners -- in Canada and in lower
southeastern Michigan since about 1994.

"What we're looking at right now is sort of the top of the pyramid . . .
that's what the danger is," said Windsor Police Sgt. Neal Jessop. "If
you don't tell, and the people you don't tell have sex with somebody
else, they don't know they're transmitting it."

Jessop described Leone's partners as women, young and old, some of whom
charged for sex. Jessop said Leone met women in Internet chat rooms and
frequented strip clubs in Canada and the metro Detroit area.

Health authorities in Michigan and Canada have asked anyone who had a
sexual encounter with Leone to contact their local health department.

Windsor police would not release Leone's photograph. But, they said, his
description is unusual enough to trigger memories.

Jessop described Leone as white, 5 feet 3, 120 pounds, with dark hair in
a semi-brush cut style. He wears glasses.

Leone is listed as the vice president of Leone's Music World, a shop in
Windsor that sells musical instruments, equipment and lighting. Jessop
said the business is family owned. A woman answering the phone there
Wednesday declined to comment.

Despite the concern in Michigan, T.J. Bucholz, spokesman for the state
Department of Community Health, said he wasn't aware of any reports from
women in Michigan who claimed to have had sex with Leone.

"We have no idea how prevalent this problem is in Michigan," Bucholz
said.

In Windsor, health authorities through mid-afternoon Wednesday had dealt
with 29 people who claimed contact with Leone. Dr. Allen Heimann,
Windsor's medical officer of health, said 10 more people were expected
in the next few days.

He described all of them as residents of the Windsor area. He said test
results were still pending, but he knew of no deaths of sex partners of
Leone.

I thought no one was ever going to reply to that post! I had hoped
to start a rant where I would claim that the only reason this guy
was even pursued and prosecuted was because he was HETEROSEXUAL. I
guarantee if he were a homosexual deliberately infecting other
homosexuals with HIV that he would never be prosecuted.

In other posts I've complained that the government doesn't seem to
do anything to stop people with HIV from infecting others, even
when they know they are infected and still have unprotected sex.
I can recall perhaps half a dozen cases I've heard about on the
news over the last 10-15 years, all of them heterosexual except
one (and that one was very downplayed). The SINGLE case of
deliberate homosexual HIV transmission (attempted transmission)
was a Pahrump, Nevada case (Pahrump is about 60 miles from Las
Vegas). It involved an HIV+ man who KNEW he was infected as he
had been receiving treatment for several years. The victim was
the son of Art Bell, the famous talk radio show host who deals
with paranormal and weird stuff (UFOs, psychic powers, misc.
conspiracy theories, etc.). The perp plied the 16o boy with
beer and marijuana, then proceeded to anally rape him without
a condom. The boy was severely traumatized but fortunately was
not infected. The local media did cover the story, but it
really was hardly mentioned at all, usually buried on page 26B
of the local newspaper, very strange given the local celebrity
status of the boy's father. My point is that authorities
deliberately avoid prosecuting HIV+ homosexual men for spreading
the virus out of concerns of being labeled "intolerant" and
"bigoted" for prosecuting a politically-correct group with
special rights.

Nevada Substitute Teacher with HIV Sentenced for Sexual Assault

A former Nye County, Nevada substitute teacher with HIV has been
sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison for sexually assaulting the
son of southern Nevada radio talk show host Art Bell. Brian
Lepley, 37, will be eligible for parole after 10 years under the
sentence imposed Monday by District Judge John Davis in Tonopah.
Nye County prosecutors had sought life in prison for Lepley,
calling him a sexual predator with HIV. Davis added the new
sentence to the 17 years Lepley already is serving for related
crimes. Lepley was convicted in April 1998 of charges including
sexual assault, attempted transmission of the AIDS virus and
possession of a controlled substance. An oral sex encounter with
Arthur Bell IV, then 16, led to the sexual assault conviction. It
also initially led to a life sentence, but the Nevada Supreme
Court later ordered a new trial. A second jury convicted Lepley
in November. No evidence was presented indicating that any of
Lepley's victims has the AIDS virus.

One more rant...I imagine that Brian Lepley will receive a special
early parole long before the 10-year minimum sentence describe
above has been served. I predict that his "ill health" will invoke
sympathy among the parole board members, not to mention the
enormous cost to the prison system of providing him with medical
treatment, and will cause him to be released by the end of the year.
He will then be free to rape other teenage boys and infect them
with his virus, all in the name of "diversity."

Well you would be wrong there have been at least a dozen prosecutions of gay
men for knowingly spreading AIDS all over the country. There has been one in
my rural home county in Washington state within the last 4 years, several in
NY and more in CA as well as others in Boston, Florida, Texas, Louisiana
etc.

The reasons the Heterosexual cases get all the headlines is because bigots
like yourself still believe that HIV and AIDS is a predominantly gay
disease. So when a hetro is charged the media see this as news (something
new, different, titillating, newsworthy) but when it is a gay person charged
it is just considered local news and never breaks into the national
limelight because it is within the commonly held misconceptions about HIV
and AIDS.

Are you aware that the population with the fastest growing number of new HIV
infections in the US is NOT the gay community but is in fact the
Heterosexual community? With African American women the hardest hit, and
Latinos coming in a close second.
