I am not, nor ever have been involved with any drug company
whatsoever.
I have no political or economic interest in AIDS. I haven't worked
in the field since 2003. But I did have extensive experience before
that.
What? You'd recognise the truth if it leapt up and bit you on the
bum?

I read his post first. He's generally an interesting poster.
You're not generally an interesting poster. And I was moving my
cursor up the screen rather than down it.

<Strange and dishonest snippage noted>
Not nit-picking at all. What I did was a far cry from distributing
ARVs. Sadly.
In Swaziland in 2000 there was.
It's the truth.
Not really. The Salvation Army has no power over me at present. I
was less enthusiastic about it in the last year or two in service.
The Salvation Army does a lot of good work wherever they find
themselves. I gave fifteen years of my life to it. I didn't start
out liberal and gay-friendly. I learned those things as spiritual
graces on my knees.
In 1990, the AIDS scourge looming, The Salvation Army decided to
start AIDS work. Not knowing how to go about it they sought advice
from people who were already doing it, the Gay Christian Church. It
was while working with these gay Christians that I learned that
God's love and grace is not reserved for heterosexuals or any other
group to which I may or may not belong. From there I became
increasingly liberal and eventually I moved completely away from the
original standpoint of the Army and it became dishonest to stay. At
that point I left.

Medical and pharmaceutical are not one and the same.
Its like saying AIDS is an illness so therefore they are the same.
The fact is Moira at no stage claimed she was a "pharmaceutical missionary",
so why don't you just admit that you got it wrong and apologise to the lady?
Humble pie tastes good when its both voluntary and appropriate.

What? When you said "What a load of horseshit!!! "?
any reason why that might be the case then I think it's not my argument
that is wanting - or even necessary.
What I did do was check out for myself wether Moira or not made the
statement that you claimed was a matter of record. I couldn't find it.
I posted what I did find and I supplied URLs to the original postings
from Moira.
Somehow I don't find "What a load of horseshit!!! " quite as
convincing.
It might work for you. It doesn't for me.

At the time they had a very spiritual leader, one who cared more
about people and his responsibility than promotion and being
perceived as being "proper". Commissioner Roy Olckers. I learned a
lot from him, even though he was not a (book) learned man. He
taught me that if I was ever going to err when deciding whether to
feed someone, that I should err on the side of compassion. Rather
feed a hundred chancers than send a desperate man away hungry and
shelterless.
When I reflect on this, I realise that I owe him a huge debt of
gratitude for giving me the opportunity to open my mind and become
liberal, though he'll probably shudder gently at the thought. :-)
I'll pick up his number from the dispo and phone him tonight.

Fred Shaw, the author who hides behind the laughable hubris of calling
himself "Life" has not the slightest clue about medical care of people
living with HIV. Whether it is ARV or OI drugs or cleaning up shit,
or helping a person to eat or get around or do the simple things that
became so much harder for so many before they died before ARV came
along.
Fred Shaw thinks that distributing ARV--even for free--is somehow
wrong or evil. It's not by any stretch of the imagination.
Fred Shaw doesn't recognize how hard TAC has to fight, for example,
just to gain access to ARV in the environment of denialism that still
exists in South Africa's highest levels of government. That access
should be to generics, not just genocially overpriced pharma
companies. THAT is evil
Fred Shaw doesn't even have the guts at this point to sign his own
name to his ravings. But that again is no surprise.
He just makes shit up about people and spews it everywhere.
Why? Psychosis, I suppose. Alcoholism? Something's definitely wrong
with him. He's ill.

No, I actually made my point quite nicely, except
for those who might suffer from an extra chromosome... Bob
So let's review, if just for poor Bob:
Moira posted and recently confirmed her post of 2001:
"I have just been appointed to be a "medical missionary"
in Swaziland,"
Then the chromosome-enhanced Bob blurts:
"Medical" missionary is quite different from "pharmaceutical" missionary.
Which, of course, resulted in my response:
"What a load of horseshit!!!"
Now Bob wants a "counter-argument", even though I have made
clear that there is no distinction between "medical" and
"pharmaceutical" when it comes to dealing with AIDS,
ESPECIALLY when it comes to Africa.
So, Bob, what part of that don't you understand?
That's probably because of the chromosome thing, Bob
(wink wink)...

Gee, Moira, that's certainly the hypnosis that seems to
be going around.
Too bad there have NEVER been any true placebo
randomized trials to prove your faith-based notion
of AIDS treatment.

In dealing with AIDS, you couldn't be more wrong.
I never said AIDS was an illness.
I only said that the only thing "medical" about AIDS has
ONLY been the use of pharmaceuticals.
You are wrong - Moira admitted her claim for being an AIDS "medical
missionary".
Now since you seem to be struggling with the logic of it all,
please review.
Apologize for stating the truth?
Why does it seem that everyone is busy apologizing about the realities
of AIDS?
Go ahead, enjoy!
