- night sweats

I'm not sure if it's actually night sweats, because he doesn't get drenched
like people always talk about, but my husband definitely sweats something at
night. Our mattress on his side has an orangey stain. His pillow does too.
He's 43 and has done this for at least the 10 years I've been married to him
and thinks it's no big deal, but it's gross and worries me. Anyone have any
experience with something like this? I searched with Google, but found
nothing. Thanks for any comments or questions.

There is a condition that results when the liver is unable to break down
the by-products or waste of amino-acid (protein) metabolism in blood,
which is excreted by the kidneys.
This condition is called jaundice.
One of the by-products of amino-acid metabolism is urea, the main
chemical constituent of urine. Urea contributes to the characteristic
yellow color of urine.
Small amounts of urea are normally excreted in perspiration,
contributing to the characteristically offensive body odor and yellow
staining of the armpits of white tee shirts.
If the liver is not functioning properly, urea can become concentrated
in the blood eventually turning the urine a dark yellow-orange color and
cause yellowing of the whites of the eyes known as "jaundice."
Continued concentration will require the body to seek other outlets for
elimination of urea build-up which, being chemically similar to ammonia,
is extremely toxic to the nervous system.
The main outlet, again, is through perspiration or sweating.
in some cases the urea concentrations in sweat can leave a
yellowish-orange tinge and "fine" powder on the skin when the sweat
evaporates. This is called "uremic frost."
If your husband have liver function problems, he could be staining the
bedding with uremic frost from his night sweating.
Another possibility is that prolonged use at high dosages of the vitamin
A precursor Beta-Carotene can actually cause the skin to turn a
noticable orange color, particularly the palms of the hands and soles of
the feet.
This also may become soluble in perspiration and transferred to bedding
while sweating during sleep.
There are other substances that can cause unusual pigmentation of skin.
Check your husbands medications and vitamin suplimentation, and seek the
advice of your health care professional.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. I rather doubt it's jaundice because I've been
told that a person with jaundice has yellowing of the whites of the eyes.
He doesn't have that. But maybe that info is wrong?
He takes no vitamins and no medications except for an herbal remedy for a
"nervous stomach". He's only been taking that for the past 6 months or so,
and seeing as how this problem has been going on for at least 10 years, I
doubt that that is the problem.
I think I'll read up more on jaundice. Thanks again.

For God's sake don't get alarmed.I sweat like a pig under my pits .
I've to use the strongest deodorants there are .
Excessive night sweats ,to the point where one is totally drenched
COULD be( please ,don't panic) a sign of tuberculosis ,cancer, and
AIDS.I'm not gay, but my friend with AIDS ,in his last stages , told me that he
had to change his pyjamas nightly .
Please contact one or more doctor for for peace of mind.
Godbless ,terence , Rosicrucian Order
PS : Some people suffer from hyperhydrosis ( too
many sweat glands .Botox injected every several months is one form of treatment
for a local area of the body .
Nerves can be cut that will prevent excessive sweating locally ,
its cheaper than botox in the long run.
I'm not a doctor ,my advice should be taken with a grain of salt .
