- What kinda pollen is flying around North Carolina these days? I think my head is going to explode.
- Posted by Sandra # 4888421093
My allergies are killing me, even more than usual. I've got the
stereotypical burning water eyes, my sinuses have swollen up I can barely
breath through my nose. My nostrils are constantly dripping watery
discharge.
I like to know if there is an usually high amount of some particular kind
of pollen in the air. At least I would likely know what type I'm more
allergic too.
Also, if anyone else is having troubles and have found some relief by
medication or some other treatment please let me know. My OTC Claritin
isn't giving me much in the way of relief. Anything helping you out?

Hi.
Dr. Weil suggests the following herbs:

His favorites seem to be Stinging Nettle and Quercetin.
I personally can't vouch for them because I don't have allergies, but they
might be worth a try. You can click on each herb and get a summary of
what it does.

1) Go to your primary care physician to get a referral to an allergest.
See what is bothering you... it could be an indoor thing (like mites). You
could also be reacting to something that you just started to react to...
like wool or dander.
2) Stay away from random herbs... they tend to increase my allergic
reactions.
3) I prefer Allegra, but it requires a prescription (gotta call a real
doctor!)
4) Our local weather broadcast includes a pollen count. Like this
(found by putting "north carolina weather pollen count" in www.google.com
search window):

You can sign up at the site for email warnings when the pollen is
especially bad. The site shows about two-thirds of the continental US
having high levels of pollen today.
Allegra during the day; Benadryl at night(it makes me too sleepy
during the day). I use Beconase or Flonase nasal sprays.

Hi.
Dr. Kennedy suggests that you are a sock puppet.
You favorite spam seems to be the bait 'n hook.
I can't personally vouch for that because hey, maybe
you two really did just show up on Tri.Gen. Yeah, that
is the ticket! That's right, you're both two newbies
who just happened to show up here!

Depends on where you are. Down around Fayetteville, there's a lot of
pine tree pollen. Here in Raleigh, it's a lot of oak tree pollen.
Doesn't seem to be particularly heavy this year.

According to my friend Ed, the yellow pollen is mostly from pines but
it's too big particular-wise to be much trouble to us. The stuff that
bothers people more is smaller and comes out a few days before the
pine.

Have you tried OTC Claritin? About 10 cents a pill at BJ's. I just
opened the second bottle of 90. The other lasted 8 months.

I suppose could have googled, but a tri.gen post from
the Italian government had BS written all over it. Sorry

What you're experiencing is a spring ritual of pine pollen - yellow dust
that covers everything and floats through the air. It usually lasts for a
couple of weeks and the rain should also help it along by washing it out of
the trees. I have also tried Claritin, Zyrtec, and Allegra (with minimal
results). I have found that a nasal spray every couple of days helps
tremendously. I got a prescription from my doctor (you can also get one
from an Urgent Care facility) for Nasonex. There are lots of different
brands that probably work just as well. You could try Afrin first (get it
in the grocery store). For the swollen membranes I also take Advil to
reduce the swelling and sinus headache. Just make sure that the other
medicine doesn't contain a pain reliever. Good luck.
