Lisa Masterson is a woman who was falsely accused of Munchausen's-by-proxy (in
her case, faking or inducing the symptoms of Lyme disease in her kids). Lyme is
a serious bacterial infection caused by the bite of a tick,which can cause
chronic neurological and heart complications..
Lisa was accused in Britain after the children's blood test for Lyme came back
negative. But the test is known to be unreliable. Top US Lyme specialists
thought that Lyme and/or other tick-borne disease was the most likely cause of
the illness, but her UK doctors,who have no experience of these diseases, did
not agree.
On 14 August, 2003, Lisa had her kids taken into Care by the Social Services of
the London Borough of Harrow. Here their health needs are being ignored, and
social workers are constantly telling the kids that they are not ill and have
never been ill, despite the fact that two of the children have at times been so
ill they had to use a wheelchair. On recent contact visits with their Mum, one
of Lisa's daughters has been threatened that the visits will be stopped if she
continues to tell her mother about the headaches, double vision, leg pains, and
other problems she experiences on and off at school and in her foster home.
