- How to cure addicitions
- Posted by DJ Mehrpuyan
Hi, I would appreciate any feedback and advice on how to cure addictions
to pain killers using alternative medicine. I have been suffering
migraines for over 20 years. For the last 10 years I have been taking
Tylenol #3 (Tylenol with Codeine) which helps reduce the pain
dramatically. I only take Tylenol #3 during the night (2 tablets every
4-6 hours) which helps me fall asleep and wake up with no more migraines
or just a slight headache. Sometimes I force myself to not take any
Tylenol 3, and just wait until the headaches go away, but I then feel
misarable all day. I was told that it is not good or safe to suddenly
stop taking Tylenol with Codeine; instead one must stop slowly, which I
am trying desperately, but am having difficulty doing so. What I would
like to know is if there are any alternative methods that will help me
reduce this addiction. Any homeopathic remedies, alternative medicines,
etc, that you know of and recommend would be of great help. Please let
me know. Thank you
Regards,

Hey DJ,
I haven't worked with addicts, but I have seen a few people overcome
migraines with some odd things:
1. Water - A lot! A brother had migraines that developed out of the
blue and would come and go a few times a week. He tried prescription
painkillers for months with little help. A natural practitioner
recommended increasing water intake to the point he was carrying a
water bottle around with him everywhere he went. The headache stopped
at that clinic and they didn't come back. He's a healthy guy and to
think he was dehydrated wasn't the first thing you would have thought.
2. Feel for a calcification on the 1st Thoracic - I knew a woman who
suffered migraines 24 hours a day for 2 years. She attempted suicide
5 times. Drugs just caused her to mimic sleep. A method that
resembled long use of accupressure was applied to the calcification.
The point was held for about 2 hours after she upped her nutrition esp
with mineral supplements that dissolved the calcification and her
headaches stopped. The next day she looked like the weight of the
world was lifted. I knew her for about 2 years following that. About
6 months after that first effort she would get smaller headaches, but
never like a migraine.

The basis of your problem is that your ailment has not been addressed, just
the
symptom (headaches). The path you have chosen has taken a single ailment and
added a new one (addiction to pain killers). I would urge you to find a
competent
wholistic practitioner (a doctor of natural medicine, a holistic doctor, a
traditional
Chinese medicine practitioner) who will work through your problem. They will
not
addict you to anything and should eliminate your headaches for all time. Of
course
you will likely require some ginseng to purge all the dangerous toxins your
medications have left in your body.

Indeed a holistic doctor is needed. Codeine is not really recommended for
long-term use. To stop it, u need to visit a doctor for tailing down the
dose gradually.
Have u ever found out any specific factors that contribute to your
migraine? The goal of treatment is to prevent and not simply relieving the
headache. Medically, there are also other types of drugs that can be used.
Non-medical ways such as cool compresses, a dark quiet room and stress
relieving may help. Indeed, some migraine sufferers have stress-induced
headache as well!

First, I believe one who is addictive or wants to stop using medication must
come off the drug slowly so it won't throw you body all out of wack.
In regards to migraines, have you looked at "feverfew?" Some evidence
suggests feverfew with the active compound in it parthenolide (
sesquiterpene lactone) has helped migraine sufferers.
