How can I safely raise my body fat percentage?
Posted by Clem

I have a lot to say so I'll try to be as brief as I can.

I've had digestion problems since I was about 23. I'm 31 now. First few
years weren't too bad. At around 27 things took a turn for the worse. I
had stomach pains after every meals. Wasn't sleeping very well etc...
Since then things got better probably because I'm eating healthier
foods, I'm taking my time to eat slowly and really chew my food, I don't
eat before going to bed etc...

It was during the time when my digestion was at its worse that my scalp
started itching and hairloss began. That was a year and a half ago.
Digestion is a lot better now but HL is continuing.

But here's the thing. Even though digestion is a lot better, physically
things aren't perfect. See I've always been the skinny type. I'm 5'11
and I weigh 130 pounds. It's always been like that. There were times in
my life when I would try to gain weight and it wouldn't work. I would
pig out at every meal and not gain weight. I was freaking out. Then,
instead of making myself sick from eating so much, I just gave up and
accepted my weight the way it was. Back then I was at around 140-145.
And in the past 3 years, as my digestion problems got worse, I continued
to lose weight. As I mentioned before I'm now at 130.

What made me start to wonder about all this stuff is that recently I got
a membership to a gym. I do cardio and muscular workout. The reason I
did this was that in the past year I started to not feel all that well
and just felt out of shape and I also thought being in shape can only
help with my hairloss problem. It's been 2 months and things are going
well but my private trainer had a few comments that made me wonder. At
the beginning of my workout program 2 months ago he did a physical on me
(blood pressure, heart rate, bode fat % etc). My pulse was a little
high. BP was a little low and get this... my body fat % was at 5,9%
BEFORE I started to even workout at the place. He gave me a funny look
when he saw that. He told me "I've never seen this before for someone
who doesn't workout regularly. 12-18 is normal, 6-12 is low, and lower
then 6 is abnormally low. Are you feeling alright? Are you often tired
or do you feel dizzy from time to time?" I said no I'm feeling fine.

Now 2 months later, this past monday, he did a physical on me again.
Vitals signs in general are better but body fat % was so low that the
machine didn't know what it was O_o He told me that if I'm feeling fine
there's nothing to worry about but this is still kind of worrying me.
I'm starting to wonder if my HL wasn't caused by years of eating too
little and my body not getting the nutrients it needed.

So... still with me? If so, any general thoughts on my situation? Could
there really be a link between my HL and my low weight and low body fat % ?

Second, what would be a healthy and safe way to raise my body fat
percentage? Any specific types of food or supplements I should take? I
wanna gain weight but I don't want to eat Mcdonalds every day either.

thanks for any feedback guys.

I can't speak for its efficacy, but this looks like it might do what
you're looking for. http://www.weightgainplus.com/?aff=2711

As to hair loss from nutritional complaints or drug side effects, I can
tell you what worked for me. It sounds nuts, but my drain and
hairbrush are no longer clogged with hair. Get an empty spray bottle
and fill it with 9 parts water and one part Simple Green. It's a
nontoxic cleaning solution. Spray it on your scalp 10 minutes before
you shower. It cleans your scalp, roots and pores wonderfully, and you
will notice a difference.
