Does everybody have an initial breakout on accutane?
Posted by petey

My skin isn't all that bad. Most of the time I don't even have
pimples. However, I do get blochy skin and redness on my face. I know
these symtoms sound more like rosacea than acne but the herbs I've
been taking and the amount of water I've been ingesting have kept my
breakouts to a minimum. However i do get infalmed skin on an
everyother day basis.
I want to go on accutane to get rid of this nusence for good. I
don't want to worry about whether my face is gonna be blochy at any
given time. I'm going to try to get on accutane but I'm worried about
what the initial breakout is gonna be like. If I hardly have any acne
on my face, will I be getting when I go on accutane? Does everybody's
hair start falling out when they go on it. What other symtoms are
associated with it besides really bad headheaches?
This skin problem that I have has been the most constant problem
that I've had in my life since having bad skin. I've tried everything
from continuously drinking water every chance I get to usintg
everykind of vitamin and herbs imaginable and nothing works. I was
hoping antibiotics would save me from this condition but even that
didn't help.

Petey,

Have you tried any of the suggestions for rosacea?

I've been in Accutane a bunch of times over the last 19 years. During
my first two full Accutane courses (1985 and 1993), I experienced no
initial breakout and no hair loss. In fact, in both cases my skin
cleared almost immediately.

During a later Accutane course in 1998, my skin did not clear
immediately. I did not have an initial breakout per se, but instead I
experienced unfettered continuation of my bad skin. By week 8 my skin
was clear. In this course, I did experience some minor hair thinning
plus other side effects I had not experienced with earlier courses (in
particular, a red face).

Immediately following that course, I stayed on low-dose Accutane for
about 2.5 years. During that period my skin stayed clear, my facial
redness went away, and my hair returned mostly to normal.

No, everybody has a different reaction. No headaches or hair falling
out for me. But failing to heed warnings about joint pain, I did some
heavy lifting and guess what? I got joint pain. It took some physical
therapy to fix it, and it has not come back. I did not get an initial
breakout. Accutane cured (for several years) the skin problem from the
INSIDE. That's where the body should be healing itself. Topicals are a
big joke, and just inflame the epidermis. The only reason they even
slightly work is that they exfoliate the skin, allowing the infection
to break to the top surface, with a lesion or scar resulting. Yecchh.
Accutane reduces the sebum from the inside, and for some as yet not
fully understood mechanism, it helps your immune system combat the
dreaded bacillus like no other chemical yet invented.

I only wish they would invent a time-release form that could be used
on a lifetime basis. Since there is little money in this, the drug
companies don't seem to be interested.

When these other solutions stop working, you feel like ripping your
hair out. Been there, done that, and know what hell you are going
through.

has anyone broken out from ephedrine products containing povidone as an
inactive ingredient??

You might possibly be breaking out from the ephedrine. That's not the best
thing for you.
