Best hairspray for humidity
Posted on 09-16-2003 | 2 Comments

Voted "best hairspray for Houston humidity" by the Houston Chronicle: Hair spray for Houston's humidity PureOlogy InCharge While our humidity staves off fine facial lines, it’s hell on hair. Houston’s muggy days and damp nights can turn hair-sprayed couture coifs into gummy "helmet" hair. A Chronicle hair-spray queen swears by PureOlogy's InCharge hair spray: "It's liberating. It really is humidity-resistant and won't get sticky even if you're caught in a sudden shower." A testament to its

Redken All Soft Sale
Posted on 09-10-2003 | 11 Comments

I was at the mall yesterday and walked passed a Hair Cuts Plus (mall type of salon chain) and they had the 33.8 oz. (or 1 liter) bottles of All Soft shampoo and conditioner on sale for 8.50! That is less than I have paid for the 10 oz. bottle. I got two of each, but plan on making another run for some more. If you have a Hair Cuts Plus in your area, you may want to check it out. Good luck! Melis

Would love to know what you do find moisturizing enough so I don't have to buy every product on the market to try to get this dry hay of hair looking half decent. TIA Sandy

Need recs for shampoo+conditioner
Posted on 09-05-2003 | 4 Comments

My hubby had been using Style Plus Shampoo+Conditioner, but since they are no longer available (unless some AFer knows where I can get/order it) has been trying new ones with the end result being that he's broken out in a rash from the Dove 2-in-1 and the Pantene 2-in-1. I bought him a bottle of Pert 2-in-1 but he hasn't had a chance to use that one, yet. Anyone have drugstore *or* Salon product suggestions? Thanks, Barbara

3d hair color?
Posted on 09-04-2003 | 2 Comments

I just made an appt with a new stylist for tomorrow. When I asked about pricing for cut/color, she said it depended if I wanted straight color or 3 dimensional color. What exactly is this? She mentioned more than one color is used but is it an obvious use of multi-colors? Or is it a more subtle look? I know much depends on the skill of the stylist/colorist but I'd like to know in general what's involved and what it looks like. I don't know which I'm more afraid of: that the new stylist...

Extending hair color
Posted on 09-03-2003 | 6 Comments

I typically have my hair cut and colored every 4 weeks. Last week, the night before my appt, my stylist called and said she had wrecked her motorcycle and broke her left hand. She expected it would be a couple of weeks before she could resume work. Ok, so it's been 5 weeks now and I have AWFUL roots (and they are more gray than I'd like!). I can totally handle a shaggy hair cut but is there anything I can do about the color/roots temporarily? beth

How soon have you redone home hair color?
Posted on 09-02-2003 | 2 Comments

Does anyone here have any experience with coloring your hair at home, and redoing your color shortly after having done it before? How long did you wait to redo it, and how did your hair react? I did my hair last night with L'Oreal Excellence and it wasn't quite the shade I was hoping for. The color came out right -- it matches the shade on the box -- I just don't like how it looks on me. So I'm trying to figure out when I should try another shade again. Their website says you can try...

"cloud nine" griff97removespam@perigee.net wrote: I have tried, and would definitely not recommend, the Sheer Blonde shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo was too drying and left my wet hair knotty, and the conditioner didn't help that situation. The conditioner is loaded with silicones which didn't moisturize and left my hair feeling somewhat gummy even after many rinses, and it was more tangley than usual after drying. The next shampoo (with another product) still left some residue from...

Shampoo that *removes* color?
Posted on 08-22-2003 | 18 Comments

I know we've discussed shampoos that strip hair of color unintentionally, but I was wondering if there are any that strip color on purpose. I'm going back to my natural blonde from a red and I'd like to help the process along a bit. Any recs for actually shampoos that do this? Or any opinions on regular shampoos that seem most guilty of color stripping??? jules

Hair coloring technique: Slicing?
Posted on 08-21-2003 | 3 Comments

Has anyone heard of this technique and had it done? I got my hair cut today and the gentleman was talking about "slicing" (I asked him to repeat it, because I thought I heard it wrong), and he said it was a combination of 3-5 colors instead of just one or two. Any input? -- M~Elizabeth

I have to say that for me, most often salon products do seem to give me better results. Maybe it's my hair type or my product preference....but I've wasted alot more money on drugstore brands than on "salon". Salon shampoos and conditioners seem to be thicker in consistency, I use less, and even when I'm down to the last 1/4....I add water to use it up. And the product still works...

ISO: hair care for purple hair

I just recently went from black hair w/ red highlights to black hair with purple highlights. being a licensed cosmetologist i have access to quite a selection of color care products, and fell in love with Redken color extend Infusion conditioner. i have been using the red/violet one for my red highlights, but now want a similar product that will refresh my purple highlights. i have the option of coloring it as often as i want for free at my salon, but doing so will make it darker and less...

Daily: Shampoo. I have a bunch of shampoos, and I just randomly grab any two. I follow with a conditioner, sometimes a light detangling conditioner, sometimes a deeper one. To style, I use some mousse on my bangs (NOT to do an 80s mall-hair look, heaven forbid) to give them enough hold to stay straight when I blow-dry them. I use Sebastian Volumizing Spray or Rusk Thick on the roots then comb through, blowdry using my fingers, except for the bangs where I use an oval brush to pull them...

Diluting hair color to refresh ea. mth?
Posted on 08-18-2003 | 2 Comments

I just used Revlon's High Dimensions (permanent) in light auburn and I love the color and shine. But I know this beautiful color is going to fade quickly because reds always do. Has anyone ever diluted their hair color--use half the amount of color mixed with water-- so you can freshen up your hair more frequently? It would be like an enhancing rinse? Color conditioning shampoos and conditioners will never make my hair look this good.

Hi, Although I am a professional, tons of our clients mix colors (we have a home use color product)......a safe bet is to stay with the same line, product and base tone.....if you do that it should work fine.......if you mix a gold base with an ash base you can get a funny color but staying with the same base is pretty safe.....also doing the strand test can really tell a lot about home color.......adjusting things like the timing and doing just the new growth are fine as well.......we...
