Extending hair color
Posted by bethG

I typically have my hair cut and colored every 4 weeks. Last week, the
night before my appt, my stylist called and said she had wrecked her
motorcycle and broke her left hand. She expected it would be a couple of
weeks before she could resume work.

Ok, so it's been 5 weeks now and I have AWFUL roots (and they are more gray
than I'd like!). I can totally handle a shaggy hair cut but is there
anything I can do about the color/roots temporarily?

What shade do you color your hair? For red or brown shades, Roux
Fanci-Full or Tween Time sticks will help you touch up your roots.
For blonde -- maybe touch up with Frieda Beach Blonde lightening gel.

Thanks Tara,

My hair is red, Redken 6RV IIRC. Can I get the Roux at Sally Beauty Supply?
And I've never heard of Tween Time sticks...how do you use those?

Not Tara, but yes, Sally's carries the full Roux line as well as the Tween TIme sticks. They also
carry Claudia Stevens touchup comb. Please note these are both temporary - they wash out when you
shampoo your hair.

When my stylist was on maternity leave, I ended up using Loving Care until she
got back. It is temporary (washes out) and easy to use. I used #745 - medium
reddish brown and it looked great. It even lasted way past the 6-12 shampoos
too. (I shampoo every other day with Fructis for color treated hair.)

if you do use the sticks be sure and tell your hair colorist....they are
very hard to remove from the hair as they are a wax and most color cannot go
through them.....a good cleansing of the hair is required before a good
color application can be made......

Thanks for all the help everyone!

I called the salon today only to get a message that my stylist had hand
surgery and won't be taking appts until Sept 15. There's no WAY I can wait
that long (original appt was Aug 25) so I asked her to call me back with a
recommendation for this month.

Now the fear of having a new person do my hair...
