Boot conditioning?
Posted by Jnymd

Hi. Looking at my boot collection for fall, I find I have some that I haven't
worn for ages because the leather was looking like it might start cracking, and
I figured I needed to condition them somehow...except I don't know how. Do you
take them to a shoe fixer or something? Do it yourself? What gives?

Thanks for any info...

you can use saddle soap on them and this should soften the leather a
lot.......I also use a beige cream by Esquire but cannot think of what the
exact name is...perhaps someone else knows what I am referring to.......

Saddle soap is good. So is a product called Lexol. Both are available at most
shoe repair shops.

Also, be sure to use boot trees and, if possible, shoe trees in the foot part
of the boot. If they aren't shaped to hold shoe trees, stuff the foot with
newspaper every time you take them off. This helps to prevent cracking of the
leather.

Thanks! I'll have to stop by a nearby cobblers to try to pick up those things
and give them a try...
