- Best leave-in conditioner for long hair?
- Posted by A. K. Hyatt
Hi,
My hair is long (past shoulder blades) and painfully straight
(meaning it will curl nicely when I use foam rollers and mousse, but no
matter what, is FLAT within 2 hours!). I have a lot of hair, but it's
fine. Does that make sense? The strands are silky and fine, but there's
a lot of it! It's shiny and healthy and never been processed. Anyway, it
tangles like crazy; it takes forever to comb through and then brush, and
I have to braid it at night, otherwise, I have serious knots in the
morning, and I need a good 20 minutes to comb them out. I wash it every
other day, and if I use a cream conditioner, it gets oily very quickly,
so I wash with a regular shampoo first- usually Charles Worthington or
Pantene or a lavender mint one from Trader Joe's. I follow that with
Suave shampoo & conditioner in 1 or Dove 2 in 1. I'd like to find a
leave in conditioner that will detangle and protect the ends, something
I could use in place of a 2 in 1 to get the conditioning benefits. I'd
preferably like to find something I could purchase at a drugstore or
Target. I'm on a budget. I must direct all my lavish spending towards
beauty and skincare items...yay, Sephora! ; )
-Also, if anyone has similar hair issues or just has some advice on
my hair care routine, please do jump in here. I'll probably be
reprimanded for not using conditioner.
It's okay, I can take it!
Thanks in advance!

Amazing! You just described my hair! Right to the detail of it being
impossible and likes to tangle at the ends. Anyway, I find that using
a conditioner helps it slightly. I use Origin's Happy Endings and it
seems to do the job so far. The longer I leave it on before washing
it out makes it softer.

I use Infusium 24 myself - spritz it on before I style my hair or anything
I'm touching it up.

We have the exact same hair except mine is almost to my arse!! So it's even
more of a pain.
I use various shampoos but I always use Infusium 23 leave in or the Aussie
Leave in. Both excellent drug store products. I've recently started using the
Aussie Detangler in the shower to condition. It's a very light conditioner,
just gives your hair a bit of slip. When you do condition, do you just
condition from the ears down. This will prevent your hair from getting too
oily.
A little trick that I've learned is to use a bit of spray on volumizing gel or
just a bit of hair spray when the hair is wet to give myself a bit of lift. Not
a lot...I also love the Mousse and Spray from Big Sexy Hair, comes in very tall
red bottles.
When I go to sleep, I tend to braid my hair before so that it won't be a mess
of tangles in the am. My biggest fault right now is that I drive around with
the top down and my hair whips around. I paid for it big time this morning..it
really did take about 20 mins to gracefully and carefully take out all the
tangles.

I go with a big spray of Bumble & Bumble Prep. It detangles and also
protects if you blow-dry.
I have thick hair that requires a lot of crap, but Prep is a fab leave-in.

Just discovered a new one yesterday at Target. I picked it up and it seems
pretty good for the first day...Frizz Ease just came out with Shampoo,
Conditioner and Leave In Conditioner. I tried the Leave In this am...we'll see
how it holds up the whole day. So far, hair is very nice, smooth and
soft...especially after the abuse the past couple of days with it being whipped
around.
