- Bad Highlight Job! Orange Stripes!
- Posted by Woody
I had my hair highlighted a couple days ago with the stylist I've gone
to on and off for the last few years. This is probably my fourth or
so highlighting session and haven't had problems. I'm a natural blond
but my hair has darkened in the last few years and wanted my hair to
be a little lighter this time around and told the stylist my wishes.
Well, when my hair was done, it was VERY blond all over, almost
shockingly so. Still shocked, I got home and noticed that not only
was my hair too blond but there were some orange stripes under the top
layers. When I put my hair in a ponytail (which is how I usually wear
it) the stripes are visible. I called the stylist and informed her
about the orange stripes. She stated that this effect sometimes
happens if the foils get bumped around while under the heat dryer
which will cause the color to bleed. The stylist tried to highlight
the area with just a shade or so lighter than my natural hair color.
Well, it didn't work completely and I still have the orange stripes.
I was wondering what the etiquette is in instances like these. I paid
about $120 for the cut and highlights and feel like I should either
get a partial refund or a true fix of the problem. I was also
wondering how others have had the problem of orange stripes fixed.
Will I have to color my whole head or can a stylist just fix the areas
in question. She was aware when I left the second time that the
problem was still not fixed. She told me that the color would fade
eventually and wouldn't be as noticeable. I don't think this is an
acceptable solution. I don't want to have stripes for the next couple
months! Thanks for any advice given!

keep after them until it is corrected........let them know this is not
acceptable........wearing stripes until hair fades is not what you paid
for........you could let them know that if they do not want to do anything
further that you will have to go elsewhere to have it fixed and ask if they
are willing to pay the bill.......orange in the hair is tough but if they
are any good they should be able to break it up and make it less noticeable
but they will not be able to eliminate it completely......coloring over and
rehighlighting is very hard on the hair and I am not sure that is a way I
would go with this....just be tough with them......excuses are fine but you
have to wear this hair every day and excuses do not solve a problem like
this........

Yep I agree 100%. When you spend that kind of $$, you deserve proper
service. It sounds to me like they might just have to tone over the
highlighted pieces.
