Garnier Fructis revisted
Posted on 10-10-2003 | 13 Comments

I am in love. I bought the 3 minute treatment and *love* how my hair looks - shiny, soft, and smooth, and did I say shiny ;) In the last year I've had 2 perms, straightened my hair, and colored it. I had tried everything to get it looking decent - Kelp Help, Redken, V05, you name it. I was hesitant to try the GF cos in Googling I see that back in February and March I didn't like the GF shampoo for Fine hair - it made me break out. I've been using the fine hair conditioner on my daughter...

Does shampooing less frequently reduce the amount of oil produced by your scalp?
Posted on 10-09-2003 | 19 Comments

For me the answer is a big "yes". Here is what happened: A while ago, I used to wash, condition, and blow dry every morning. My thin hair became very damaged and broken from all the blow drying. My hairdresser suggested I quit washing and blow drying every day. I felt I "had to" do it every day because by the next morning, my scalp was very oily. But for some reason I decided to try it anyway. I started out by switching to every other day. At first it made my skin crawl on the second day,...

Bad Highlight Job! Orange Stripes!
Posted on 10-09-2003 | 2 Comments

I had my hair highlighted a couple days ago with the stylist I've gone to on and off for the last few years. This is probably my fourth or so highlighting session and haven't had problems. I'm a natural blond but my hair has darkened in the last few years and wanted my hair to be a little lighter this time around and told the stylist my wishes. Well, when my hair was done, it was VERY blond all over, almost shockingly so. Still shocked, I got home and noticed that not only was my hair too...

Boot conditioning?
Posted on 10-08-2003 | 3 Comments

Hi. Looking at my boot collection for fall, I find I have some that I haven't worn for ages because the leather was looking like it might start cracking, and I figured I needed to condition them somehow...except I don't know how. Do you take them to a shoe fixer or something? Do it yourself? What gives? Thanks for any info... "...And honesty means never having to say 'please don't flush me down the toilet.'"

opinions on black suits for men?
Posted on 10-08-2003 | 23 Comments

I'm thinking about getting a black suit, but I'm trying to think of occassions where I could wear it. It wouldn't work for business, methinks. That leaves weddings, funerals, and more formal evening events. I've also just never thought of myself as a black suit kind of guy. Any comments would be welcome. Josh

Shower head filter to help highlights
Posted on 10-07-2003 | 4 Comments

Hi all! I have my hair highlighted, and I'm always stressing to the stylist that the highlights not. So I end up with a medium brown with lighter brown and blonde highlights, which I love. However, after about a month, it always ends up with some reddish highlights. Now, I've noticed in cleaning my shower that there's a pinkish tinge to some of the bottles, and in the corners, where water can sit, there's pinkish rings under the bottles. So I'm figuring out that I have some wacky water. ...

Shampoo/Conditioner formulas within same brand
Posted on 10-07-2003 | 9 Comments

Hope that title made sense. I posted yesterday about re-discovering Garnier Fructis. I did think maybe the Normal hair conditioner was not conditioning enough so today I bought the Dry/Damaged hair version. Well I got home and out of curiosity, checked out the ingredients on both. They're identical. Are all conditioners from the same brand the same? They have to be different, don't they, to be marketed as Normal, Dry/Damaged, Fine, etc...? Something has to be different cos last time I...

what did you buy today?
Posted on 10-06-2003 | 51 Comments

I am officially back on my favorite haunts today...and I must say today was a banner day. First, I found a Dior baby saddle bag in light denim. It was wrongly marked as faux, I noted with glee as I found the serial # and checked the gorgeous workmanship and stitching. $12! Then, as I was driving home from the gym I stopped at a church rummage sale. They were having a silent auction, and one item was a brand new authentic Lulu Guiness bag. Only one other bid and one other interested party. I bid...

Tipping @ Hair Salons & Training Nights

What percentage do most of you tip at hair salons? Also, what if you are getting a "cheap" haircut thru one of those training night deals, do you tip less, more or don't tip at all then? --Maria

OT: Kerastase' Products, Overrated?
Posted on 10-02-2003 | 13 Comments

I went to a very NICE spa this weekend to treat myself, and while talking to one of the women there, she mentioned this product, and bought four items...almost $200!! When I came home, I rushed online to find this product. It seems like something I could try, but before I do, I'm sure one of you can give me a review.....let me know, what the best products are for dry, curly, thick hair, and if it's worth the money. Thanks, Sher~

AFNY (long!)
Posted on 09-26-2003 | 9 Comments

i had a great af week/weekend, thanks to all the wonderful afers in town! audrey and i met up for a day of shopping, and what a power shopper she is! she greeted me at her hotel with a bag of delicious dried white nectarines and plums, which i'm trying to eat slowly to no avail. we headed downtown to hit some stores she wanted to hit for her daughters, including zara and h & m, then on to the prada 'museum' (actually a store, but architecturally and display-wise, so much more). we oohed and...

Murray's was originally formulated to stay in the hair, therefore, getting it out may be difficult for some hair types. Best leave-in conditioner for long hair?
Posted on 09-24-2003 | 5 Comments

Hi, My hair is long (past shoulder blades) and painfully straight (meaning it will curl nicely when I use foam rollers and mousse, but no matter what, is FLAT within 2 hours!). I have a lot of hair, but it's fine. Does that make sense? The strands are silky and fine, but there's a lot of it! It's shiny and healthy and never been processed. Anyway, it tangles like crazy; it takes forever to comb through and then brush, and I have to braid it at night, otherwise, I have serious knots in...

Grabbed by a lemming from behind
Posted on 09-20-2003 | 10 Comments

I got attacked by a lemming today who held a knife to my throat and gun to my head, forced me to stop at the first Walgreens I came to and then forced me to go into the store and buy a bottle of the new Dove Self-Foaming cleanser. For good measure it dragged me to the hair care aisle and forced me to buy a shampoo. I screamed for mercy but it showed me none. I was trying sooo hard to be good. I am sure it would have killed me if I had tried to resist.
